VIN Number Check

Besides Car Fax...Is there a FREE vehicle histrory report.

I might be getting an M3 and would like to run the VIN Number to check history.

Also any BMW SA that can check Vehicle Maintenance ??

BMW NA does NOT allow non-owner to check the service history. But they'll give you what dealership the car was purchased from.

I usually call + tell them that car is sitting in the used car dealership and trying to buy.
Most of service advisor understand the situation and will tell you most of service history.
Only thing they can't do is giving you physical paper or faxing the doc.

Honestly, if you're going to buy a car, I think 29.99 is worth spending especially when they give you "buy back" guarantee.

I'm not sure if I trust CarFax. When I used to own a Honda Del Sol, I was involved in a couple of accidents and none of them made it to CarFar. Although none of the accidents were my fault, the repair costs ranged from $2000 to $4000. I would've thought damages that severe would've made it to CarFax, they they didn't.

There are lots of things that don't show up on carfax, it is a good start, but don't assume because the carfax is good then nothing ever happened to the car. Get the service history if you can and get a good independent to do a used car inspection for you if your not comfortable looking the car over yourself. Just simple things they use like a paint thickness guage will quickly tell you if anything has been re-painted and then you investigate further.

If you can find out where the car was originally serviced (I always just looked up the dealer in whatever town the car was titled in using carfax), I have had 100% success in getting local service advisors to fax me a copy of the service history using the last 7 of the VIN. Just tell them the car is for sale and you're thinking of buying and are doing research.
