What is so bad about used cars?

Why do some many people hate buying used cars even if they still warranty on them?

Probably because the cars have been tainted and have been whored out to others. I mean, we call our cars by "she" anyway, and maybe it just doesn't feel right sharing girls/cars like that lol. "She" might have syphilis after all....

Gods knows...I got mine used. It's a great car too =P.

If I could have found a "6MT xi e92" used I would have gotten it.

Sadly, the *new* inventory was like 1 or 2 in the whole nation...
0 used available whatsoever...
I basically had to order it.

Generally I prefer used because if you buy it, drive it for a year, and sell it, you lose like 2 or 3 grand... which is nothing if you are perpetually tempted to switch...

i got my 3 series before the economy went to shits. So my dealer only had a few on the lot and there were no used ones. If i coulda bought or leased used i woulda done it in a heart beat and i'd be paying $200 less a month

some people like knowing that their car hasn't been mistreated before by anyone else. with a used car, there is absolutely no way to know how the previous owner(s) drove and treated the car, unless you are buying a car from a close friend/relative.

psychologically, some people might just like the fact that its brand new. a used car might seem like a hand-me-down or something, like you are settling for something less than the best or getting someone's leftovers/rejects.

would you buy used/refurbished electronics? would you buy used clothes? basically the same principle.

also with something like cars, its much easier getting a new one exactly the way you want instead of trying to find one used. especially something with as many options and stuff as a BMW.

Actually, yes. I've bought most of my stereo equipment used, for less than half the new price. This has allowed me to get into extremely high-end gear that I normally could not have afforded.

Very simple really...
- With new you get the options / color combo you want.
- You know how the car was treated since day 1.
- You get to have a new vehicle.

I know this is about used cars. But i rather go for used then a demo car from the dealership, 1. I worked at a dealership before and that demo gets F'd up until it goes for sale and 2. you get problems i had a 06 e90 and when i got the car, it wasn't alined, oil needed to be tipped, a lot of minors but still stupid when you get a demo.

Buying used is the smartest financial move. But many people here either lease, which is only for new cars (I think), or they are willing to pay a premium for knowing nobody else has driven their car.

Used= best value. I agree in another thread here recently there was a lot of hate for used, which I don't undertand one bit. Yes, there are plenty ridden hard and put away wet, but also plenty more cream puffs that were treated well. Low mileage goes a long way also, I bought my M5 2 years old with 1700 miles. What could possibly have gone wrong?

If my car didn't get totaled forcing me to act quickly, combined with the fact that I wanted E90/6MT/Terra, I would have bought used for sure. I was lucky to find one built just like I wanted on the way to the US. Quick dealer trade and I was off.

Because in the end you will wind up paying for the problems that the original owner created. You might respect the car but the previous driver might have beat the shit out of it, this especially holds true to cars that were leased.

I wanted a certain color combination in a certain body style with certain options and with a manual transmission. The chances of finding one used were nil. Long ago I discovered that if I buy a car that's exactly to my liking, I'll keep it longer than one that "sorta" fits.

For my E92 I fell in love with the car when I first saw some spy shots and ordered it as soon as I was able to line up funding around Christmas 2006. There weren't any used ones then really, especially not with the colors I wanted. I will get mostly used cars from now on though, unless its somethign really special that I have to have before a good used one would be available. A lot of people buy new because they care too much what others think and wouldn't want them knowing they are driving a used car. Or they are just afraid of what when on it it before they got it.
