Exclamation Oil Cooler???

Just bought a 2007 335i Sedan last week, I've found some inconsistency's with the oil temperature. I believe that it get way TOO HOT! average is about 215-220 degrees... and I'm not driving it hard. Can someone please help me or give me some tips or advice??? Do I have to request the dealership to get my car checked out?

Mine sits at 230 -240 driving at a constant 70 mph on the highway. That's normal temp.

Actually at lower speed they will run a little hotter. And 230-240 is really common.

It will depower at the 275 range and limp at 300. Synthetics can go 325-350 before they breakdown.

Early production (prior to March 07) MY2007s that have step trans and performance package did not ship with oil coolers. Manual trans cars with zsp did. Some approvals for oil cooler installs on MY07s have been done ;-) YMMV.

Generally you need to be the original owner for the retrofit, not a CPO car. Look inside the passenger wheel well it's pretty obvious if it's there, also plumbing will run from the oil filter housing(approximately) across the front of the engine bay and down. Post pictures of the front of your engine if your curious and someone will answer you! No worries 220 is just fine!

Yup mine sits at 230-240 with daily commute driving, and I have an oil cooler. I also drive in DS a lot too, which will increase the temp more (higher revs). I wouldn't worry until it hits about 280. That's the highest I've ever hit doing some spirited driving through the mountains. Shortly after 280 or 290 you will enter LIMP mode.

Yeah, as said OP your temps are fine. Even a little below the norm.

Well, Im thinking that original owners have just about ran out of time on any retrofits since its been almost 20 months since these started shipping.

Put it this way, even second owners have gotten them installed up to about April of 2008. And then they really started making it tough.

Agreed, I was going to buy a CPO 07 with really low miles in January but it had no OC and I tried to get them to retrofit it as a condition of purchase. Got the big no sir from BMWNA per the dealer so I bought a new 08 somewhere else.

I have an 07 with NO cooler, and I have already seen 250 this year, and it hasn't got hot yet. I have a feeling that it will get a cooler by the middle of summer.
