newbie with a question please help

hi guys just got my e93 335i loving the car.i know this may sound stupid but recently I've discovered that you can drive with the fan on instead of the air-con the fan which uses the heat from the engine i love doing this in fact since its winter I've been doing this all the time the car runs alot cooler and to me it feels a tiny bit faster, which brings me to my question.is there a downside to using this function all the time when i say all the time i mean every time i get into the car, i apologise in advance if some find this to be a stupid question i have done a search but did not find any results

thanking you guys in advanced
cheers

In my car, the engine needs to be off using the heat from the engine to the cabin for use of that feature... I think I'm misunderstanding you.

Thanks for the speedy reply guys but no not talking bout the rest button what I do is press the center button of the air con the one which has the big fan and small fan icon which automatically turns on the full air con there after the buttons on the right hand side of the air con unit are illuminated with a green light pressing the illuminated buttons on the right hand side of the unit turns of the air con feature but uses the cars fan which utilizes the heat from the engine I belive it's of the same concept of the rest button but the car is on I hope I'm making sense, I think it just uses the cars fan and not the actual air con again I hope I'm making sense so sorry for the inconvenience thanks again

there is no shame in using punctuation. It actually helps the reader.

Still dont know what youre talking about. I'm assuming you just turn the fan on. If the button that says A/C or has a snow flake on it or whatever isn't lit, you're using the fan and not the compressor. Changes are it will have minimal effect on your engine temps but if it makes you happy, go for it. I prefer to roll the windows down and floor it.

Pictures and punctuation would make this thread 10x easier.

And I highly doubt you can do anything with the A/C that will harm your car. Do you really think BMW would be that stupid to let you be able to harm your car by pressing a few buttons?
