3-series build in NJ

So i was at the dealership today picking up my car after having the fuel pump replaced, and I overheard a service advisor talking to another customer. He appeared to be trying to convince her to replace the fuel pump, whereas they were just replacing the fuel injectors at this point. He mentioned how it was a known problem. So then she says something like "oh, that's only a VIN specific problem. It depends on where the car is built. those built in germany don't have any problems, but the ones built in NJ do". (I could be slightly misquoting, but you get the idea).

After she left, we looked at each other and just shook our heads. Perhaps because they get delivered to a port in NJ she assumed that's where they were made?

This is interesting because I took my 3MO 335i in today for a tire replacement and had them look at my strange idling when they told me my fuel injectors need to be replaced. My car was bought in NY but was shipped to NJ.

the 3's we get are only built in germany or south africa. its pretty disheartening when the people selling or servicing your car are clueless about them.

That is disheartening. Sounds like typical dealer bullcrap though, to shut the people up who don't know any better.

The customer (girl) said that, not the SA. I had to re-read to realize I made the same mistake as you did.

i think you need to re-read. females can be SA's too.

why would an SA recommend you do something not absolutely required, and why would the customer refuse free warranty work?

It's the car business. At the peak of things sometime in 2007, no joke, even Chrysler stock was flying high when Cerberus took them, machinists were making their $85/hr. with 12 weeks off a year for vacation, and everybody was happy as pigs in s****. The UAW wasn't acknowledging at that time that their power was waning.

Now that the s*** has hit the fan and all these indivuduals have driven their cos. into the ground, these are in fact the same people working in the car business, still trying to make $$$ and feed their own families, and so the kind of crap they pull really is no different today than when times were good.

Oh no, the SA most definitely said that. The SA was the girl, the customer was the guy who knew she was full of it. Sorry if I wasn't clear....I was tired and had a few with dinner.

I was in Denver in 07 and a young lady college student (20-23) was trading in an 06 3-series vert and accepted a break even trade-in value and paid sticker for an 07 X3 saying to her SA "I want you to make money too...and I want to do this without my Dads help" I think I blacked out for the next 30 minutes.
