Well, I was going to post a recap of the weekend with some in-car video, but I'm having trouble transferring the video from my Sony MiniDV camcorder to my PC. What software do you guys use? Windows "Movie Maker" sucks and the software that came with the video camara is too complex. I got the video to transfer, but can't get the audio to work. Any help is grteatly appreciated. Thanks.

Boy - I think we could begin a new subject on this. I have the same problem with getting the computer to find my cam.

I just use video maker. It has worked for me. The computer will not find your camera if you are just using the USB connection. With USB it will treat it like a disc or a memory stick, etc. For it to recognize the camera properly, you need a firewire connection I think.

Uh, what? I googles "video maker", and came up with too many results. Can you elaborate? Is it freeware?

Sorry. I meant movie maker. The poorly written/functioning software that comes with Windows. It is not good, but works for me for simple editing.

Thanks again. I came to that conclusion this week end, so as a father's day gift, my son has mailed me one. Hopefully that will take care of it.

M3V8Driver - I hope you had a good time with the Mazda group. I normally run with them also, but a schedule conflict prevented me from participating. I likely will run with them the end of August.

Tarheel at VIR July 4/5 anyone? North Course.

I tried that AVS Video Editor... it's just a rip-off of Windows Movie Maker and even has the same options and problems.

Anyway, I got the video and audio together. Problem now is, the file is 83MB big! How do I share it with this forum?

I seem to have an easier time uploading late at night. The upload doesn't fail. Try once again later on if you get a chance.

My problem is trying to preserve the 16:9 aspect ration in which the video was filmed. Movie maker shrinks it and distorts it back to 4:3 no matter what I try with the settings. I'll try adobe premier now. Let me know if I am missing a simple setting somewhere in movie maker. I did click the 16:9 preview thing and am using the 720x480 format when capturing and saving the file.

Lucid,

One thing I discoverd while messing around is that if you use Windows Movie Maker to PLAY the video, you can set it to 16:9 ratio. But you cannot in Windows Media Player.

I apologize for the horrible sound quality and wind noise. I acutally adjusted the sound to be a little better somewhere during the clip. Hope you enjoy... I ahve about four hours into making this available (it was more a matter of will to try to figure out how to do it).
