What do we think about what? I mean the RV is what it is (pretty much set) so it doesn't matter what WE think. I mean it's not like you can tell them "hey I don't think it's accurate so you need to adjust it."

Obviously not, I'm asking has it been accurate in the past, can one actually rely on it.

BMW's .9 financing specifically on 06 CPOs would imply to me that there's a glut of 06s on the market coming off leases, so their original RVs may have been too high and people are walking away from them, but I may be totally wrong and it's just a bad-economic-times thing. Maybe the .9 is just to get people into the dealerships. It got me in. The car market is pretty weird these days. so I'm not sure how well they can predict 09 RVs for the 2012 market.

I'm pretty sure it's specifically engineered to be higher then the actual value of the car so people continue to lease new cars and to turn in their cars so they can be CPO'd and sold.
I know the RV on my wife's 335 was very close to what we could pick up a one year older CPO'd 7er for. |

Well, in the past the residual was pretty much set in stone when it came to the purchase option at the end of the lease. Nowadays, it is very negotiable. I just purchased my vehicle off its lease, and was able to get what I think was a very good deal.
Of course, the residual percentage when starting a lease is set by BMWFS, and is not negotiable. It only varies to account for term, model, and mileage.
