Dealer refused to do 2nd service

Yesterday I brought the car back to the dealership to check possible engine cap leakage and also request for the 2nd service. They checked my file and say I am still 6000kms away from a the 2nd service. I have 20000kms now. I said I would be going on a one month long road trip and would like to have the service done before leaving so I'd feel more secure. SA told me they couldn't do it and it will be ok if I go 2000 or even 3000 kms over the limit. Also, they didn't really check the possible leakage. Just top off the motor oil for me.

So now, I have to leave with possible leakage and possibility to go over the service due time.

Next time I am just going to pay for the oil change in between the interval even though they are charging almost $300 for a oil change@@

Anybody has similar experience?

Yes my SA told me the same thing. I don't remember them being this strict on the E46 M3's.

They may well not be able to get paid if done that early.

He is right, I believe they can do it within 2000-3000km of your service due but not 6000. BMW won't pay them for their work and then they lose the money. So they actually aren't wrong at all in saying no. But honestly...Is your car leased or bought? If its bought I would def say do 1 extra oil change per year. So you get 1 for free and pay for the other one. That way you will have your oil changed every 10 000 km. If its leased, I wouldnt worry about it too much!

This is kind of funny. I bought a demo, oil was changed at 1200 miles with the service, not reported in the system though. Picked up my car with 2K miles, oil changed as part of the deal. Get home and bring into my local service (I bought it in another state) for something small, and they notice oil has not been changed in a year (as per the online system, haha) and they change it again at 4K miles. So, I havent paid a dime for three oil changes in 4000 miles. I know its overkill, but if its free, why the hell not.

BTW, I will definitely be changing oil well before BMW's intertervals. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

That's exactly how they told me that they won't get paid by BMW if they do the 2nd service for me that early. In the future, I am just going to pay for an extra oil change in between the intervals. I purchased the car and planning to keep it longer so I don't want to risk it for sure. Still an oil change every 24000 kms is kind of ridiculous to me. BMW has been cheap on this part for sure.

If it's been 12 months since the last change, you're entitled to a "Low KM Oil Change" at BMW's expense. I had mine done at 1 year plus 10 days after the last one with 13,000km still left to go to the "official" change on the CBS dashboard readout.

What dealer are you dealing with? Mine sent me a reminder post card to get my car in for the service.

Yup, this is why they did mine the last time. I didnt ask for it, its something that popped up when they ran my VIN.

my car is 8 month old only but i do drive quite a bit due to living far away from work place. I am most likely to do an oil change by myself in between the intervals from now on. Does anyone know any vendor carry castrol TWS 10w-60 by any chance?

Folks, maintenance manual clearly says oil should be changed at least ANNUALLY, so for low-mileage drivers (like me), make sure to try to get it done a few days before the anniversary, so dealers don't give us crap on the last year, since it'd be done a few days before maintenance program expires.

The issue I want your opinon on is tech told me when they do that, they don't reset the system, so it doesn't trigger a tranny and diff oil change by the 3rd oil change. I think it SHOULD be reset by the same principle, no? We want the tranny and diff oil changed every 3 years, regardless of mileage, no? Comments welcome. I'm far from that, but just wanted to know. I saw my car on the lift, and the tranny needs a cover removed, so it won't be an easy job, but I'll definitely do it myself after warranty. Good day.

TWS is only available from BMW dealers. Canadian dealers charge about $20 a liter for it, while it's available for less in the US.

If I had to buy it (rather than get it for free), I'd buy it from Tischer in Silver Spring MD on their online store (you can order an oil change kit which has 9 liters of TWS and a genuine BMW oil filter with free shipping for $US115) and have it shipped to a convenient location in Blaine or Bellingham and the run down and pick it up and import it myself. I do that for oil for my wife's car and it takes about a week for shipping from the east.
