Q: Shadowline High Gloss Paint on B Pillars...?

I wonder if anyone knows more about this paint? Can we get this done at our usual bodyshop with same effect? Is BMW using a special black paint or what?

Spray a smooth layer of High Gloss Black paint on the pillars and followed by 2/3 coats of lacquer?

thank you...

like these, but the shadowline trim includes window trim, ext. mirror body part, and b pillars.

and i wonder if all the 6 pcs B pillars painted in High Gloss black would match the OEM chrome window trim theme..? but having them in high gloss black is definitely more classy than the matte black that looks cheap...IMO

I have it and it's not paint on the door frame. Its a thin shiny sheet metal trim fitted over the front and rear door frames where they meet infront of the b-pillar. (The b-pillar itself is not shiny). Also a 3rd piece covers the c-pillar as well as the lower window and upper roof line trims.

Not sure whether the trim is painted or plastic coated.

Scratches very easily though as it's where you tend to hold the front door when you shut it.

Do you only want the b-pillars or the rear-door window guide cover too?

For full gloss trim, on each side of the car their are:

2 x b-pillar covers
1 x rear-door window guide cover
2 x under window trims
1 x full length over door trim
1 x door mirror triangle trim

Plus all the fixing bit and bobs.

The vertical covers only might look strange with chrome surround trim?

Hmm, so it looks as if we have to choose between scratches (gloss finish) or fingermarks (standard satin finish). Pity, I was getting all excited there for a moment

I forgot to mention the hideous finger marks too. Worse than satin, but at least they wipe off.

The high gloss pack is part of the M-sport model spec along with other bits, but you can buy it on it's own for £350 as an order option.

hee...i got them painted! looks good dont they? will get them Zaino later this week for scratch proof...

one thing i like about gloss pillar is that they blend so well into your windows when you have them tinted in black when looking from side, the dark colored reflective pillars joints the front and rear window in one piece...IMO

It looks gorgeous!!
Did the pillar covers need to be removed for painting, or were they just masked with tape?

Painting them seems like a good alternative. Please explain how they did the job and what the cost was.

nope, need not remove the pillars, that's too much work!
Look for a professional body shop, make sure they mask the window rubber trim surround the pillars nicely. push the rubber trim inwards to make room for painting to avoid paint stick to your rubber trim. i was there all day to make sure they do a good job!
