5-22 MIR drag rental - n54's, fastest e36 in the US? 9 sec supra/is300? pics/vids
Hey all,
Got back from MIR (Maryland Intl. Raceway at Budds Creek) this evening and finally got done editing a few photos. Was a great day though it got damned hot at the track today....easily in the 90's and I got BAKED. I think I look like a racoon w my sunglasses tan/sunburn. I spent the day helping out, giving whatever advice I could and snapping a few pics when I had the chance. My car is sidelined w a boost leak issue that will only be fixed by some custom fab work that I need to get done ASAP. Wizzle from N54tech came along....here are his impressions of the day: Read his post below...if you have never been the strip...its a good idea of what a 1st timer experienced From the beginning: I learned a lot today, but the first lesson I learned is racing takes a lot of work and preparation. I left from Baltimore this morning at around 730. When I met up with the convoy outside of Annapolis I had about 1/2 a gallon of 93 left in the tank. I poured in 2.5 gallons of 104 and we hit the road. I got to make a few pulls, but traffic was too thick for much. There was also a SICK white DCT M3 with some bolt ons in the convoy. I would have loved to run him, but there were also tons of cops out! By the time we got to the track (around 930) I had about one gallon of gas left and added another gallon. I was running about as close to pure 104 as I could get. We got our cars numbered, signed waivers and chatted for a few minutes. My first pass of the day was also my quickest. I accidentally left my DCT fully on (I was a little excited since it was my first drag run ever). The track prep early on was wonderful. Very tacky. I had about as close to a perfect launch as possible. One little chirp and I was gone. Wow! This race gas sure is fun! I realized my DCT mistake though when I hit second, chirped the tires, and the computer stepped in. Whoops... I finished the run and was dissapointed in my mistake, thinking I probably ran a low 13. I was way off! I rolled back to the parking area and Sniz was standing there with my time slip and a surprised look. A 12.345 @ 111.48 mph with a 1.84 60 foot!!! :happy Had that little hiccup in second not happened I am guessing a 12.1XX was possible! I spent the rest of the day playing with launch technique and shift RPM. I could never quite nail it like I had first and was usually pulling 2.2 60 foots and high 12 runs. Though I did miss several shifts and blew out a lot of launches, but we won't talk about those times! :lol I also noticed a huge issue with having a stick, aside from difficult launches and requiring perfect shifts. On the 3-4 shift, boost would drop dramatically and the car would bog for a minute until it could build back up. It's just a tough spot for the powerband, and unfortunately it happens about 100 feet from the finish. I'm thinking this is why my mph was so low. I played with shift points and only managed a 112.5 mph run. As for the other competitors... There was only one other JB3 car there, but he was having launch and shift issues. There was a Procede as well, but neither were cutting times below 13. I also outran a Viper with exhaust and intake! Haha! He was new to racing as well and was much more timid about his runs than I was though, so doesn't really count. They also had some very seriously modded cars out there, but I can't really attest to what mods and what times. I wish Sniz could have ran his M3, I bet it'll be quick as hell when it's all done! All in all it was a great time! The crew at the track was very friendly as were all the attendees. I think we ended up with 13 cars. I was hoping for more, but it was also good because we could run as much as we wanted. I think I am now addicted and can't wait to go back!! Special thanks again to Sniz for extending the invite and Ahmad (sp?) for setting the whole thing up. In closing, these are the lessons I learned: 1. WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! 2. I need drag radials BAD!!!!! 3. Drag racing looks easy, but is way harder than I thought 4. 60 foot times are EVERYTHING! 5. I couldn't ask for a better group of guys to spend the day racing with! 6. I need a beer after all that excitement! :drinking: Also... When Sniz was promoting this he mentioned to me how private rentals are the perfec time to learn. He couldn't be more right! Everyone was very helpful and I recieved a lot of tips. It was also very casual and could take my time prepping for runs and launches. If anyone out there has never dragged before and has an oppurtunity to hit a private rental, they should without a doubt do it! I can't wait for the next one!! Wizzle on his 2nd run of the day, I think his car was still adapting a bit, the puff is a backfire on his 1 -> 2 shift.....Terry seems your dumpin some serious fuel in your race maps!! Ahmad's beauty of a CLK55...ran a 10.7 and then he called it quits. He is running out of injector and is ordering SLR injectors soon.... stock C63......ran a 12.3, FAST Dont mess with this car if you ever see him on the street. 751whp at 21psi.....high boost is 38psi and undisclosed whp. My god it sounds wicked. Don's M3 lining up Don I love these wheels Continuing Ed...the man...the legend. Has a built motor gt35r e36. And his lady friend.......very nice! his car I forget what his 335 has in tune wise...think JB3. mix of pump and race gas. Trapping 108-109 or so. ummm yeah, fully race built is300. can you say 146mph trap speed? one of the fastest and I think the quickest 600's in the country M6, running mid 12's at 113mph or so. Like I said, it was HOT mid day. where the magic happens mine just hangin out sickest Supra I've seen in awhile. He snapped 2 custom driveshafts last track rental. Today he couldnt get traction and couldnt get into the 9's. then.....his belt broke and his turbo ate it....ouch. Vanes broken off everywhere. sorry man the Wizzle photographed by the Snizzle brand new Viper SRT10 w mods. what a sound once on throttle, at idle it sounds like 2 pissed off volvo inline 5's that are out of tune. One of Don's runs: 2 of Anthony's runs: One More: This is the same car that ran 12.3 earlier in the day I think. They were shot in HD, but YouTube is having some trouble getting it up. If I can I will upload the HD versions

1)Supra (800+ whp)
2)CLK55 3)Cooling engines between runs 4)Supra torque 5)Aforementioned Benz 600 6)IS300 built motor 7)Baddest BMW in all the land (if it can hook up ) 8)IS300 burnout 9)IS300 burnout 10) One of the many "big boys" coming in as we were leaving.. one was running its engine while we were there from about 500m off and it sounded like it was on our face I would do a writeup but, frankly, I'm lazy haha. I would definitely agree with Wizzle's synopsis. I would also add, if you are running a tune, live in a hot climate, or plan on tracking at all... BUY AN FMIC!!! I got there with 1/2 tank of 93 pump gas, and then added a little over 1/4 tank of 103 unleaded race gas. So basically I was running 97 octane. I have a JB3 1.3 tune only and switched to map 8. To acclimate the car/tune I did some pulls; I did 4 2nd gear pulls and 8 full 3rd gear pulls. After doing those pulls my temp gauge was at about 280-290.... HOT! So I say again, and this time repeat with me... F.... M.... I.... C....FMIC FMIC FMIC!! However, needless to say it was a blast!!!! Just had to do a little more 'cooling down' than I would like.

that sure is, new engine/cams/turbo/etc
he's just starting to tune it. As u can imagine, really hard to tune a car like that on the street or dyno. he's at 751whp and literally almost plans to double the boost from there. he was only rolling thru the light and then having at it while datalogging, so no actual runs. I did see him fry the tires at what I had to think was 120mph plus at WOT.........so yeah, the power is there. Quote:
yeah man, that car was a beauty....serious money.

As Sniz said, he didn't do any real runs, he we more tuning than anything, but DAMN that car is a beast. He definitely had growin pains! His accelerator pedal kept coming off in the middle of his runs, would get stuck at WOT and he would just powershift it. Hell he borrowed like 2,340 zip ties to try to get it to hold on for the day. Then his clutch pedal broke... he burned out, rolled up to the line and just sat there... turned off the car and we ask him what's up... sitting on the floor is a spring and rod and his clutch sitting on the firewall As his buddy said "it's always some stupid small shit like that which breaks on us"

Fstop: f5.7 ISO: 100 Shutter: 1/500 I pulled a gradient w soft lighting down from the top and up from the bottom to darken those areas. Increased contrast and smart sharpened. thats it....very quick and dirty editing.
