Engine oil low?

Not sure if this is normal, first turbo car I have owned. got an oil change @ 15k, currently have 23kish, engine oil shows @ lowest level and gives me the "fill oil up" light. Any ideas why the oil level might get so low??

I think one quart every 7K is pretty acceptable for tuned cars pushing higher boost levels.

We tend to get more blowby with the higher boost.

It's not just the N54 guys, its pretty normal for BMW inline 6 cylinder engines to burn/consume alittle oil every few thousand miles.

seems like u got your question answered... but shame on u for changing your first oil after 15,000 miles.
id did it at 3,000 miles most do it by 5,000 miles.

due to all my mods, i change my oil every 3,000 miles or so.

naw I changed before 15k!! come on, I treat my car like a child...I did the first at 3k, second @ 10, free one @ 15, and was going to do one soon, but found it odd that the oil level was this low since previous cars Ive had didnt burn this much I guess...but yes its a lease, and if you get it after me you will be thankful @ the condition the car is in

*and thank you for the responses, I guess I wont worry, just make sure I keep a few bottles for topping off at home

Oil usage depends greatly on how you drive your car. I added ~1L after 1.5k km. 4 top speed runs, very many 150+ mph runs, WOTs almost all the time.

I just pay the local foreign auto repair shop $150 to change it every 6,000 miles with Mobil 1 0W40 (LL01). I also get 'em to do the routine maintenance. I drop it off first thing in the a.m., walk 3 minutes to work, and pick it up at lunch. Beats 3 hours of driving back and forth to Tallahassee plus the waiting around time.

In between oil changes I top it off myself.

yeah,

i changed mine at the 1000mi mark and will continue every 6-7km
and ill also let the dealer do the free stuff too -- just to get my monies worth
but then again i only have like 2k on it now and i got it at the end of last year.

all BMW's are known for a lil oil consumption -- especially the M Cars
the whole thing behind the consumption im told is that BMW uses low tension oil control rings, due to the higher RPMS capable of some of the motors they put together now, so not all of the lingering oil gets scraped down to the crankcase. (so im told )

but I must say my previous E92 (328i) barely used any oil.. but it wasnt pushed real hard either
