HPFP??? Grrrrr

So I picked up an 07 335i about 2 1/2 weeks ago with a built date of 02/2007.

The first time I drove it, it dropped to limp mode, but did not show the sad looking engine icon. It ran really rough and was searching for an idle. I pulled over and re-started the car and the problem went away immediately.

I have been having 1-2 second start times, pretty much every start warm or cold. Now today, the car finally showed the sad engine icon as it slipped into limp mode again, and I have a service engine soon light on the dash. Also once again the idle was really screwy.

I am fairly confident this is the dreaded HPFP issue, however my question is, I have to take a decently long trip later today, will the car go back out of limp mode as it is sitting and be OK to drive, or should I simply cancel my trip?

Also if the dealer has the part what is the typical turnaround time to fix the issue.

Lastly I will start searching now, but I am probably gonna order a JB + and wanted to make sure the build date of 02/2007 was old enough to avoid the tuner codes.

So I guess it's welcome to the club huh... and thanks for any help you guys can give.

Best pic I have so far from the iPhone

Mine died on Saturday exactly one week ago... I was luckily driving towards the dealership (not on purpose) when I had Limp and Check Engine Soon lights. I was able to drive only about 50 mph down the interstate with no power a few more miles to the dealership. I arrived at 8 am, by 9:30 they had it "diagnosed and approved" to swap my HPFP and I got my car back around 12 noon. I also asked for a software update to help with the lag problems, he told me he thought it was automatic with HPFP replacement. I also asked for new wiper inserts. They changed the wiper inserts, but he told me they did NOT update the software apparently.

Odd thing is now when scrolling through my system checks (turn signal shaft on left side, the little up and down switch) I think I see 1 or 2 new things on there I can check/set?? One is a page with like a key icon and a thermal icon I think? So I dunno...

4 hours total at dealership though

Sucks... Hopefully all goes well at the dealership.

It might be a good idea to buy a BT tech scanner to make sure sure you don't have any tuner codes... When you go to the dealership for service they probably updated the software, which opens you up to tuner detection codes. $300 for a BT scanner is still cheaper than just replacing the HPFP if their is a code...
