Question on one of the Service Icons

does anybody know what this means? i looked it up in the manual and it just says maintenance requirements. very vague as opposed to all the other icons being very specific. TIA!

I had the same thing......

Once Long Tran changed my front brakes and I reset the onboard computer.....it went away.

Look through your service menu....you probably need something service.........

That's the symbol saying you need brake pads.

From the manual:

Really? Brake pads? I thought that was just the general serivce symbol, that something needs to be serviced. Either a specific part, like the pads, or just a general inspection of the car.

I thought the word "brake" comes up for brakes pads along with that symbol?

hmmm, but through the manual, brake pads have their own icon. there's a separate one for front and rear. my rears were done late last year before my warranty expired. fronts are coming soon, but not 1,200 miles.

plus, i saw that same thing in the manual. canadian model will have that icon plus another, instead of saying "brake". so i don't believe it's that.

also, this icon has always been there, along with all the other service icons with their countdown in miles. so at one time the miles for this icon were very high, but now it's down to 1,200.

yea, it's not very clear in the manual. but i think it may be just a general service symbol too.

if so, just kinda annoying that you got to go to the dealer or a mechanic to find out wtf it is.

my front brake icon was on too along with that icon.......

once the brakes were changed.....along with the brake sensor.....the icon went away after I reset it..........

at first...i tried reseting the front brake icon without changing the brakes.....and that icon did not go away.....

Does BMW of Mountain View still offer loaner vehicles?

...my understanding is that icon signifies Inspection I or II. How many miles does the OP have?

I think that its just a general inspection of the car. I mean, the major parts are listed in the service menu, so if you got that symbol it should be followed by a second one. The major ones like brakes, fluids, oil, filters, cats, and the spark plugs are there own separate symbol, as your maual shows. Just have the tech guys at the dealer plug it in and read it, should not take more than 20 mins of your time.
