Opinions on the FJ Cruiser

I love it.

These are pics of one that's been lifted with 33"(?) tires which most of us aren't going to see on the road.

I think it's a cool maneuver by toyota, and that it looks sort of cool now, like a giant mini cooper

but I bet in 4 years it'll be embarrasing to be seen in one as the design is too "cartoony" to be good looking for the long haul

Hmm. Not bad so far.

I was expecting overwhelmingly negative responses.

I like the exterior, it reminds me of the original Land Cruiser's from Safari movies. I also like the two tone color of the roof and the body.

I saw one upclose in a car show and was very disappointed with the interior. Full of cheap looking plastic and the fit and finish was sub-Toyota quality.

The shortcuts they took to keep the price down is reflected in the interior of the vehicle.

The gas consumption was also disappointing. The one I was looking at was averaging 20 MPG.

I'm with AskNiko...the interior falls short of the promise the exterior and toyota nameplate makes.

I love it. It has a few things my Explorer doesn't have: fender well wheel clearance and tires that don't come off a skateboard.

Bad attempt by Toyota to renew the Landcruiser. Cheap parts and ugly simply put. Reminds me of the vehicle in Tango and Cash.

I have a Voo Doo blue one and love it. It drives so smooth compared to some trucks and SUVs and I also not everyone has one, which is nice. Ive had mine for 5 months now. I was the 2nd person in Tampa to get one. Im starting to see a couple more on the road now.

People talking about the fit and finish...this is not meant to be a luxury vehicle. Toyota has Rav4s, Highlanders, Sequoia, and pretty much everything else for that. This is an off roader with dials that can be operated even if you have big gloves on, no carpeting, cloth seats. You want a cool off roader, this is it. Want a nice interior, go get one of the other Toyotas I said.

High quality fit and finish is not exclusive to luxury cars. I remember driving tiny Volkswagen Polo's in Europe and those cars never ceased to amaze me on how well it's put together. Those are bottom of the line cars.

In comparison, the Corvette is a ~$60k vehicle with an interior that leaves lots to be desired. I would even say that I would buy a Corvette if GM would get the interior right. I know that they have the know how because I've driven GM made Opels with interiors that are way superior to that of Hondas and Toyotas.

Going back to the cruisers... I would consider buying one if the interior quality gets improved in the future.

I think it looks good in regular mode, without those huge tires.

I still don't get why US auto makers can't manage a decent interior on premium cars like the Corvette. I mean, EVERYBODY knows that GM interiors suck. You would think they would just get someone on it and have one less well known downside to their cars.
