Hi,
is there somebody know whether the E46 M3 front CSL Caliper and rotor will fit E90 without problem?Or can it be modified?

And long time ago I saw some one put an 4 piston Porsche Turbo (Big Red Caliper)on an M5 (the model before the E60).Have anybody done it,and will the Porsche Rotor can be modified to fit E90?

The reason I ask this, is because there are lot of Porsche used but still good caliper for sale,and much cheaper then buying the E90 big brake kits from Brembo (the GT kit).

Even the Rotor mounting point?because from what I read,they both have the same 72,5 size center hub.
I thougt at least the rotor is compatible,but I guess it is not huh?

I adapted 993 Turbo brakes to my e36 M3. It can be done. You will need a friend that is a machinest unless you want to spend a ton of money for one off parts. You will need custom rotor hats and caliper adapters/ hangers; as well as custom brake lines.

Ring Racing in Germany perform brake conversions for pretty much every sport oriented car using Porsche mono-bloc calipers. They can manufacture caliper mounting brackets and the make their own aluminum hats to mount the rotors. I've seen quite a few E36 M3's wearing Porsche brakes. Perhaps they can send you a set of mounting brackets and hats for mounting the two piece big red (from the 993 Twin Turbo) caliper and disks.

In the VAG (VW/Audi) realm they swap with porsche calipers all the time. But the mount points are the same or they're very easy to adapt. But they also use a caliper from a heavier model, like the Cayanne, or from a car with such a gigantic performance envelope over the car it's going on, like a turbo. They never use something like a boxster caliper or a caliper from an old 911 (with the 993TT being the exception).

JL does Brembo actually do any model specific testing with their applications or do they just throw the same caliper in every application with a different sized rotor? I know the marketing swag but what's the reality of how much engineering they really do for a specific model? My gut tells me they just put the same caliper on everything and charge for the brand name ... but I'd like the hear different.

I don't know much about BBKs but I'd imagine the brake bias would come from the master cylinder and not the caliper? My thought is the caliper may be capable of higher clamping forces but the OEM master cylinder can only supply it with the hydraulic force it was designed for. That's the only way I could see that any BBK manufacturer could claim to keep the bias the same as OEM when you swap to a BBK at the front and keep the stock rear. But that would also imply that you're only getting heat dissipation and looks from a BBK since it can't really clamp any harder than the stock caliper ... because the master cylinder is still only supplying the same force.

Brembo uses the same 4,6 or 8 pot calipers on Ferrari Porsche ect. Jlevi relax dude the calipers are the same and not vehicle specific it can be done. In the Audi/VW world they use Porsche Cayenne , 996 and 993 turbo calipers for there kits with custom rotor hats and mounting brackets which the manufacture them selves. http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...%20Stage%202v2

I wish somebody made two piece rotors for BMWs.

I'd prefer to keep my stock caliper and just swap to a lighter two piece slotted rotor.

As it is, I can get the ABS to engage with the blowtenza rft's from any speed in the rain. Right now my braking ability is seriously hampered by the tires.

They do use the same calipers, but my main concern is not the calipers. It's the hoses which are matched to the car and the caliper, it's the mounting adapter, it's the testing they do to ensure that the master cylinder on the car works with the caliper. Why do you think the E46 325's don't get an 8 Piston kit?

if someone were to buy an 8 piston lamborghini BBK (made by brembo) and try and make some custom steel hoses and a custom adapter to put it on to their car, parts can fail. Furthermore the master cylinder might not be able to power the caliper, it may cause early failure... you get the idea.

Whatever you do, please get something that is safe and tested for your car!
