325D loss of power with tuning box

Recently sent my DTUK CDR2(09) box away to get looked at as it was causing my car to go into limp mode. Sufficed to say no fault was found with the box (tested in abyssdte's 335D) so a new loom was sent back with my old unit.

I stuck it back in the car tonight but its still doing the same thing, latest limp mode was on the way back from sainsburys via a small upwill winding road and at the top the car lost all power for about 30sec with no warning lights then carried on as normal. Previous to getting the box back its happened to my wife on the motorway leaving at a junction and various other times as you can guess it can be quite scary.

Has anyone else had these problems with a tuning box, DTUK or other?

57 plate Auto 325D touring

Box was off the car for over 5 months - prior to it being sent back it was put back on to check and it did the same thing. During the time it was off this never happened and the car was driven by both sunday driver (my wife) and me with the heavy foot.

Well it wont happen mate, rememBer the car is running more fuel and Boost with the Box which with a slight issue could cause limp

Either that or try an ECU re-map.

I have an Evolve map with a switchbox. Thought about a tuning box, but prefered the Evolve solution, since going back to standard is just a matter of plugging in the box and reprogramming the car when it has to go to the stealer. Takes less then 3 minutes.

No probs with limp mode, very satisfied with the extra power and torque.
Should put it on the dyno one day to have the difference measured.

Would love to try another box/remap but SWMBO wouldn't allow it as I still have money invested in this one, besides I want my pilots licence first.

Anyway, I'm going to book my car in sans tuning box and see if they see any error codes that may be causing the limp mode. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with my car

She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO)

Stock is 197Hp - tuned +37hp +50Nm

DTUKs boxes are from here

Looking at evolves maps makes me wish I had waited and not bought a box.

If you do a search on the UK forums I am sure I read about another owner who had a few problems with the DTUK tuning box.

The box colin is running has been ran on my own 335d without any problems, ive asked him to have the car checked out as we have experienced similar problems over on the Astra forum where it looks like the box is at fault (no faults without the box fitted) only to see a few weeks later that a problem rears its head...

Weve sold over 20 systems onto BMW's this last months including 2 35d X6's, 3 118d (143ps), 3 x 335d and 4 320d 177PS without any problems...

It can sometimes be a clash of tolerances within the engine and box electronics as one of the X6's experienced "surging" when using cruise control, again i swapped boxes between myself and the customer and hey presto his surging problem dissapeared and there was no such problem on my car..

When we do have problems, the first thing we do is look at things logically but then that goes out the window as i believe that electronics are like women....

Colin, you have my number/email etc keep in touch and we'll get this sorted im sure

I had no problems with Abyss's eco box when I had an Astra many moons ago and can't fault Andrew with his service. Like any customer though I just want it to work

Im sure we will, i dont like something getting the better of me Carlos

I may even send Colin the new system that plugs into the turbo pressure sensor to try, as its no good for me as i often use my own car to test modules

Car is going into the garage on Monday to get looked at so maybe they might find something, who knows.

Got a video of it happening earlier but as Abyss says it proves/shows nothing

Right, car is back and here is the report

Quote:
Carry out quick test on DDE & Cruise control.
Fault in cruise control reset only, test plan on rail sensor fault, tests ok. Cust to monitor
According to the guy I spoke to at BMW the rail sensor fault was either due to overfuelling or something like that which caused the engine to go into limp mode until it rectified itself. Obviously it was never mentioned about any sort of tuning box being connected.

Oh, and in other news - I was given an 09 320d SE coupe in a horrible aquamarine colour... nice enough to drive though. The wee arm that hands you the seatbelt is rather cool

So tell me mate, they sorted the fuel rail?

then you can bolt back on the tuning box.

Although the overfueling could have been caused by the box?

No, they cleared the error code and tested the fuel rail sensor and it tested fine.

Abyss has told me to send back the box and loom to swap for the one on his 335d as a last resort. If that doesn't resolve the problem then either the box is being sold or its being put in the bin because I really can't be arsed with all this faffing about
