Engine shivers in neutral
Guys, I have a 328i steptronic. I usually change gear into neutral and pull the handbrakes at long stop lights. My car has only 4000kms and I feel that the car shivers randomly when in neutral but I don't see a change in rpms much. Does anyone know whats wrong with it? Thanks!

Is the A/C on when it quivers?
Why do you put it in neutral and apply the handbrake? Why not just put it in park? Or better yet, leave it in drive with your foot on the brake. It's not going to hurt it either way you choose, but it seems pointless. |

I do the same thing - at long traffic stop or drive thrus, I put the gear in neutral and either use the foot brake or hand brake.
Nothing wrong with that and I have auto...

The dealer checked and the car had not thrown any codes so they declared it to be 'normal'. Some on the forums have suggested it is the beginning of a fuel pump failure, but I have never had long cranks, so I don't know what to make of it.

I believe this is normal. I have an '08 335i 6mt with 28,000 miles (no problems, no HPFP issues to report.) My have always felt a subtle engine shudder every so often during idling since day 1 with the car. My friend's '07 335i experiences the same. The 335i I test drove had the same as well.
It's quite subtle and most of my passengers never notice it.

I've never noticed any shivers, but now that you mention it, I think i will go sit in the car and test it out... probably after work today...

My 06 330i does this when idling, both in park and in gear. I don't think it's a big deal though. I always thought is was just the motor mounts transferring some vibration.
