It was removed for MY2009. For previous years it was controlled by the temp gauge for the rear area of the car and a switch in the center console to turn the air flow on and off for the cup holder there.

I have the rear switch on the console to control air flow to the back seats, but no cooling function in the console. My brouchure for my 2009 said it was climate controlled, but nothing about it in the manual.
BTW... the console barely fits my phone in it. Why would you want it cooled?

I'm almost positive my E90 has this. It's controlled by the rear vent controls.

It's a decent feature. I have 6MT so it doesn't make sense to keep anything in the compartment since my arm is usually there. Also, I read somewhere that they removed it for MY2009s.

I have it in my '07. Don't use it too much, but it's nice to have the option to keep something cool to drink.

I have it in my 07 e90. It works when the AC is on. I think it be useful for long trips and whatnot. Except that I like keeping my hand on the arm rest. I'll see if I can fit midget bottles of water in there and close the top.

Did you adjust the rear passenger console temp control? IIRC that also controls the console temp, so set it to cold. Also you have to switch the inside console vent on (little switch just by the "coin slots", set to position 1).

You know, the cup holder puts the drink directly in front of the vent in my car. So just using the normal cupholder with the A/C will have the same effect as trying to use the center console cooler.
