E92 After market stereo upgrade
I have a 2007 57 e92 335d, which ive got to say is just amazing.
My question is, i thinking of changing the headunit as the proffesional one is rubbish. what are peoples suggestion and options out there? |

I don't think you can change the head unit as all the gubbins is in the boot.
are you sure it's the unit that's rubbish and not the speakers (which are) |

Sunny - I'm about to get one (E91) and am considering similar.
I'd leave the head unit as is - I've ICE'd a few cars (professionally done) and concentrated on good speakers with decent isolation and a decent amp. It makes a huge difference yet is invisible to potential thieves. I'd view a car with an aftermarket head unit and "modded" - it would put me off/slash the cost in my eyes, however good the system. |

I can only imagine an aftermarket unit would look daft.
Do you have sat-nav?

I've fitted an aftermarket head unit in mine with no problems at all. Only reason i did this was that i had a top end head unit that came out of my last car and wanted to use it. There are plenty of options to upgrade speakers and the alpine upgrade seems very good. Just depends what you consider good sound.

hey guys.
dxb, no nav in it (regret not getting it as an option). my previous car was a 320d e90, and i had the full system upgraded done and it sounded superb and kept the headunit. what im wanting to do is a full aftermarket speaker upgrade and add a kenwood dvd/sat nav system headunit in it, but just trying to find any potential problems. |

I had a pretty awesome system in my old E92 which is currently sat in a box at work. Alpine DVD/Bluetooth/Sat Nav unit in bespoke piano black facia, DLS 3-way front speaker system with mids and tweeters flushed into alcantara trimmed A-Pillars, 8" DLS subs under the seats, 10" Diamond D9 TDX subwoofer and 3 Diamond Audio Amps. The amp rack would need some work to fit a 335 as my 325 had an under floor storage area where they lived.
We kept the factory HU but relocated under the footwell carpet so the parking sensors still worked through the factory speakers! About £8ks worth all in and sounded good enough to win a sound off if that's your thing! Would hit over 135dB yet had a front stage which made your hair stand on end. PM me if it is of interest. Couple of piccies here: Head unit with custom facia and A-Pillar speaker builds Boot build with toughened glass panels Amp rack (Diamond D6700.4 for the pillars, D6300.4 bridged to the 8s under the seats and D6100.1 to the sub) - 3kw RMS - fan cooled. Diamond Audio TDX D9 1000watt subwoofer in custom ported box which is removable if you need extra boot space Custom piano black facia Custom A-Pillar builds I do miss that system! |

I'd prefer the stock headunit look personally but if you are willing to spend big then it'd be worth other than that the speaker upgrade/ amp combination seems to work for most people. (Not got round to it yet myself but it is on the cards)

Sorry for the slow response - been away!
The PDC works through the factory HU via the front and rear speakers which in my system we just left in connected up (they were not part of the aftermarket system). we simply extended the power and speaker cables and then cut a hole in the deep foam in the passenger footwell for the HU to sit in. I'll post an ad in classifieds for the system I think as there seems to have been quite a positive response! |
