Possible clutch failure soon???

I've noticed from time to time (when I engage the car 100% and let the cluth out slowly on a on ramp into 2nd or 3rd) that my car's clutch starts slipping. I know your probably not supposed to do this but it being a used car I was curious to how it would hold and how its been treated.

Is it unusual for a car to do this???? Should I have my dealer check it out?

the clutch is suppose to last 100,000 miles ....Thats what bmw says
but thats what bmw says thinking their customers are 90 and have 20 cats

realistily the clutch would last about .........50,000 miles for a normal driver
30,000 miles for a semi hard driver
20,000 miles for a guy that floors it whenever he has more then 100ft of clear road in front of him

pretty much depends on who the person that you got the car from drives and how you drive your car......but you should be under warranty

They will probably do a courtesy replacement once while the car is under warranty.

Check out this thread too: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=287049&page=2

Spark Notes version: make damn sure the dealer actually pulls the clutch and examines it before you pay a dime. And be prepared for a discussion with your SA if they find the car was driven hard.

Please tell me this is an exaggeration. I have 113k on my current '02 Civic and it's feels practically new. I guess BMW clutches aren't built like Honda clutches.

I have 182k on my '98 Volvo T5 wagon's original clutch, I am younger than 90 and I have no cats.

I have never actually killed a clutch disc on any car -- when they fail it's always some other component like the throwout bearing.

Maybe Honda drivers aren't programmed like BMW drivers.

I guess I forgot to mention that I've been driving the sh*t out it since the first week I had it. But in any case, I'll be reprogrammed in a few weeks.

Also, I didn't mean to knock BMW, sorry if it came out wrong.

you can floor it all day and have a clutch last more than 20k mi if you know how to drive a stick properly.

This is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The transmission and clutch assembly in the 335's are from the e39 M5, a car with 100 more hp. If the clutch only lasted 20k miles, I believe the forums would be on fire by now.

Edit: If you launch your car by revving the engine to 3.5k RPM's then dump the clutch at every stoplight you might be able to kill it at 20k miles.

And if that's not enough, here is another reason why you don't do that:

Give him a break. His cars probably get stolen in New Jersey way before 20,000 miles so he doesn't know how long a clutch is supposed to last.

BTW my E30 went 185K on the first clutch and the car spent 2 years in NYC. My E90 has 86K on the clutch with 40 miles of stop and go DC traffic every day.

hay doofus hes driving a 335i not 325i stick (pointless) but the piont is thats exactly what i said above i was reffering to 335's not 328 325 (low horsepowerd cars) with the more hp you have the better chance your clutch is going to go out due to the more stress on the clutch so like the guy above me states "the clutch might go out in 20.000 miles because of dumping the clutch at 3.5 rpm at every red light" is exactly what i saying.Hondas and volvos have nothing to do with bmw otherwise a honda civic would be starting at 36 grand......stupid people

if buying my car with 0.5 miles on the tack with cash is considered stolen then let it be.iall say it agian stupid people
