How do I make my car "Beep" confirming a lock/unlock

Might be a stupid question but couldn't find it in the book.

I want a confirmation 'beep' instead of just the parking lights blinking...

Thanks in advance.

IDK, but on our Acura, you just hit the button twice in quick succession for the "beep".

yes thats right... you need an alarm... they will need to update the iDrive and there is an option to turn on/off in iDrive menu under door locks i believe... and that will get your car honking like a camry... lmao...

Really.. I thought its just a simple beep when you turn the alarm on/off. No crazy honk like my nissan has...I saw the confirmation in the I-drive, but it was only for the lights. Nothing for any audio.

When you go to the dealer to get the alarm "programmed", the audible icon will then appear under your idrive options.

If you are comfortable installing the alarm yourself, I am sure you can save on the labor cost.

The alarm is pretty cheap and easy to install, just get it from Tischer for $235, put it in and then take it to the dealer for programming, which varies, most dealers will charge 1 hour labor to program, but a few people have reported getting it for a half hour labor, or free when in for other things.

You need to purchase and install the alarm then have the dealer activate it.

The hardest part about installing the alarm is getting the car jacked up and the rear wheelwell liner off. Takes less than fifteen minutes from that point. But then there's the activation time and cost at the dealer.

I will pass. I just thought there was some setting on my idrive I have to set. I didn't know it was an alarm function. Thanks for your replies!

You do not need to install alarm for this function-. In your user manual (2009) page 20-21 under heading "opening and closing" and soon after that under heading "confirmation signal" it tells you how you can activate both the sound and light signal to conform that you have locked /or unlocked the car. It can be done in my E91 (non idrive 2009) through the joystick (knob in the turn indicator lever). I am sure it is lot easier with the idrive.

Your right...it actually does say that in the book. It should say under confirmation;

Flash When Locking
Flash when Unlocking
acoustic confirmation when locking
acoustic confirmation when unlocking.

However mine only gives an option for the first 2! And the book doesn't say anything about alarms either as a prerequisite for this.

The manual lists all the options for a fully loaded car. If you look at the heading (title) and it shows and star(*), it means that it is an option for the car. It does not mean that you have it on your car.

Yes it is odd you need an alarm for this function. It is nice though, I make it beep only on locking that way I know for sure it locks, as do others. No flash or beep on unlock, so it is stealthy when I get in and run.

For those who install the alarm themselves, you won't get the sound unless the car is programmed to activate it. Just installing it isn't enough.
