2500+ Miles later.....335i is the best road trip car ever!!
SO I took a road trip last week and this in the 335, and boy what a car to have some fun times in! First off, its a 2008 and has 24k on it now (literally 80% of this cars miles are highway though). I was comfy the whole time, the sport seats were great. The car is great over passes and through canyons in the interstate its a blast, especially since I was on some barren ass roads most of the time.
Started out leaving Denver and going over the rockies, and the car never missed a beat over the passes, didnt even have to shift it out of 6th ever. Utah, well, Utah is BLEH!!! I-70 BLEW past at some speeds not worth mentioning, + V1 radar is just the best, saved me TONS of the trip. Even saved me a great ricochet from Laser too, the "rabbit" got nailed and I got it down. In Utah though we ended up following a brand new GT500...I didnt even want to test it against him, haha, but we kept up with him and made some great time into Vegas. Lost him in Vegas though, but actually met up with him at the hotel. He was from Canada and had Canada plates which I had seen and we ended up at the same blackjack table, small world. Left Vegas early to beat the heat and yall were'nt lying, the car runs fine in any heat. 100+ and the temp gauge never got even close to 250 with the AC cranking. Had an encounter with a Z06 and at 80 punched it...he walked me pretty good as I am stock but kept up better then I would have though, with 2 in the car + me. We ran some "autobahn" speeds through the desert, as I could see he also had a V1 and the way he was driving I am guessing more, made the Vegas to LA really quick. Went up north to SF after a few days in LA, didnt take the car out in LA except to Huntington for the US Open of Surf. Once in SF car stayed park pretty much except for the pics. Took the 1 through Muir Woods and Sausalito. That's supposed to be Alcatraz in the pic. My camera sucks though, I need a new one, bad. Then hucked it back across the parched desert of Nevada and Utah and boring Wyoming. Made terrible time, the construction on I-80 is immense. All in all, the car did better then I could ask for as for performance, comfort, and fun factor. SOOO Glad I have this car. Just hated putting the miles on it, haha. |

I would not be able to drive my 335i that far.. props. Its a really comfy car, but my right leg always begins to hurt after more than an hour in the car. I can't seem to get my driving position right.
Anyway, I would love to be able to take my 335i on a road trip like that, especially on the barren roads, but as you said, I would hate to put that many miles on it

Nice trip! You should've took PCH or HWY 1 from LA to SF (granted its the scenic route) but its got mad twisties when you get towards Hertz Castle and Big Sur! Nonetheless it looks like it was a blast! I'm jealous. I made the trip from LA to SF on PCH in an MB SLK55 AMG...lemme tell you, as fun as it was, those cars were definitely not made for longer trips. I wish I had my car!

Right on. My car just turned two years old and I have 44k on her. Love it, looking forward to the next 44k and I've never owned any of my previous cars past 50k.

Sounds like a great trip. I'm in Washington state and plan on a trip down highway 101 sometime in the future. 29 mpg...thats fantastic. I am averaging 21, but my car is only 3 weeks old so i'm still a bit punchy with the throttle.
I see you have the 230 style wheels. Those things are impossible to keep clean for more than a day, don't know if thats just due to new breaks??? |

Just finished a 2800+ mile trip from SD through Utah, Nevada and Lake Tahoe back to SD in our 325i. Car was great with no power or handling issues. Unfortunately, I don't find the sport seats comfortable for these long trips. The M5 would have been much better for this trip, but didn't want to put the miles on it (plus, I'm still trying to get all the bugs off the front of the 3).
