2006 330 or 2007 328 recommendations
Howdy needing some help I'm a bit fuzzy on the main differences between the 2007 328 and the 2006 330. My budget is a bit tighter than I wish so I can either get one or the other. Also resale value I'm surprised to see on some lots the 330 having a premium over a year newer 328 I really like the wheels on the 330 and found some better equipped for my price but I'm worried about engine difference or well I know the 335 had all kinds of unseen parts switched out what do you all know about differences. what features changed I think CA became standard in 2007???

Aside from the HP difference 330's were typically equiped with more standard equipment. I have a 330 and have driven a 328 (both A/T). I like the gearing better in the the 330.

2006 325 = 2007 328; 2006 330 = 2007 335i. The 330 will give you more standard options (chrome exhaust tips/trim, etc) and more horsepower.
The 330 is normally going to fetch more than a 328 because it is more expensive to begin with, and the 07 328 is not new enough to differentiate the depreciation level. E.g., an 08 328 would likely be more aligned in price with the 06 330. When you say CA I'm assuming you mean comfort access. If so, then it is not standard on any e90, old or new. It's a factory option, and it can't be added on after the fact. |

330i comes standard with HID headlights, Logic7 sound system, and a few other chrome trim pieces. Also, 330i has 255hp. Main difference is due to a different intake on the 330i. Some folks have also said the 330i sounds a little louder than a 328. I haven't driven a 328 lately, so I can't confirm this. But I can say that my 330i sounds great!

The 328 engine is newer than the 330 and the gearing in the 328 is done such that the difference in power is negated, so 330i is not really faster than 328 (maybe a little). I would get the newer model, it will sell better later.

You can for the physical differences. The net is the difference between the 330i and 328i are very much the same as the differences between the 330i and 325i, except that the 328i has a stronger engine than the 325i. Some of the high points include:
330i has the N52 engine with a 3-stage intake (3 different intake runner lengths) and tuning to account for this, which gives it more power (255HP SAE, 220 lb-ft TQ). 328i has the newer N52KP (aka N52N) engine. I understand some 328i have the SULEV N51 engine (N52 and N52N are ULEV II) but I think this may only be California-bound cars(?). Someone smarter than I am will have to correct me on that. Both are 230HP SAE engines with 200 lb-ft TQ. 330i has larger brakes, so it can't fit 16" wheels. 328i can fit 16" wheels. 330i has standard xenons, standard Logic 7, other standard features that are the same as 335i versus 328i today -- for example, chrome exhaust tips, chrome trim. 330i has a better automatic transmission than 328i. They have different engine notes -- to my ear, 330i is deeper, 328i raspier. Both are pleasant enough. 328i has a revised plastic cylinder head cover with integrated crankcase ventilation. 330i has a magnesium cylinder head cover and external crankcase vent valve. 328i has 2nd generation electric coolant pump. 330i has 1st generation pump. 328i has 5mm intake and 6mm exhaust valve stems. 330i has 5mm intake and 5mm exhaust valve stems (supposedly, 330i builds from 6/06 on have 6mm exhaust valves). If I were searching for a used vehicle and it came down to 07 328i or 06 330i, I'd pick based on options, mileage. I'm definitely biased to the 330i, if everything else is equal. However, if one has ZSP and the other doesn't, that makes the choice easier. Or if one is MT and the other AT, the choice is easy. And so on.

^^ Lovely Write up, BK. Just have to say that they made the Logic 7 an option for the latest 335i's.
I've driven three 328i's in the past few months and that was the biggest issue, it sounds like a Nissan (Just a noise!). The 330 reminds me of Honda Power with a bit more torque.

I am proud to say it has been a whole week since i have been a proud owner of a 2006 330i SG color-way, Premium package/ Sport package, All the goodies except the Nav, They had a 07' 328i with Nav W/ the same color that i test drove, which i was satisfied, but after test-driving the 330i, and listening to the engine after you push the start button, there was no comparison on which vehicle i was interested in..
Here are some photos i just recently took this morning. [IMG][/IMG] Get the 330i, you won't regret it. |

Based on the looks of the wheels, it probably doesn't have ZSP.

Yeah, I retreat my statement on the sport's package. I'm new the Euro car world. I came from a JDM world prior.
Still a beauty to drive..Is there a significant difference with ZSP/sports package vs the non-sport package? I'm getting the feeling i'm missing out on a few extra..... |

No ZSP? Fail. I guess you don't know what you're missing.

Well, Being my first car ever purchased at the age of 22, I can charge this to experience, and the next car i get would have to be at the least of a Zhp/Sports package. I still enjoy this car regardless of the non-sports package and given that I use to drive an 06' Solara (Jdm), the driving experience has changed my views on driving as well as the performance difference of a Bmw.
and no looking back. What size shoes should i look into putting on this car and what styles are suggested for 06' 330i?? |

Not having sports package is not the end of the world.
You will find it will ride better/sportier than 95% of other sedans out there in anycase! The 17's will give a better ride over the 18's, that can be quite harsh at times! Enjoy!! |
