I think I drifted today with my 328i O_O
So here in NYC, it's raining. I was waiting on the left lane, waiting for the green arrow. Then it came.
I held down on the gas, sharply turning the steering wheel to the left as I held the gas. Then I abruptly pushed down on the brakes, not too rough, but enough to add a spin. And then I felt my car go some what sides. The power coming from the rear was amazing; the noise it made was power hungry. The splash of water washed away the sidewalks. I think it was one of the greatest things I've ever done... Ok Ok, I know it's a 328i, and no, it wasn't as spectacular as I described (but it sure felt like it). EIther way, it was really amazing. I've never felt anything like it before. I probably shouldn't do this ever again since the 328i isn't meant to drift (especially with stock everything -_-). I just wanted to share my first experience

Just be safe if you do that on public streets. Safety First! In fact I would probably suggest not doing that on public streets actually, stay clear! I've seen too many bad things happen from guys trying to show off on the streets.
AKA this: But you can do it in empty parking lots when it rains |

you can "drift" real easy by taking off dtc and accelerating in first gear on a turn...Also that video...hilarious haha!

Man, sucks for that car. Why was he even "drifting" in the straight road. Strange...
Anyways, parking lots, here I come! So, no DTC while I attempt to drift?

maybe you weren't so much as drifting as hydroplaning? From your description it seems unlikely you would be able to drift while braking through a turn and I'm guessing you weren't hitting speeds higher than 20-30.

It's possible that your rear end stepped out a little with DSC (it helps, but it can't defy physics). Without DSC it might have been worse.

next time it rains go to a 90º turn and turn off DSC/DTC and floor it going right. and when you want to correct just turn the steering wheel where you want the car to go and it will straighten it self. lol

It probably was... you were probably going sideways and your wheels probably were spinning... the DTC is probably what kept you sideways and in control as opposed to spinning out and in a ditch.

Lol, i think im better off not trying anything crazy like that unless im on a track.
It seemed pretty cool, but after seeing too many videos, now I'm a little scared (mainly because I don't wanna hurt another person in case my car does start spinning) Ok, I dont know how drifting works in real life, but in the video games (yes, im using this as a reference), while going really fast on a turn, you slightly tap the brake and turn, causing that drift. Is it somewhat similar in real lift? I tried it going at a not so fast speed, and when i tap the brakes, the car just...well, brakes lol. I guess I need much more speed!
