Early Lease Termination

I'm 4 months out from the end of my lease ('07 335i). My company just got me a new car this past week and I'm looking to early terminate my BMW lease. I assume that I'll have to pay off the remaining 4 payments but was wondering if there are other options. Thanks

Depends on how the mileage is and what your buy out is.

My buyout is $28k and my mileage is 10k over (53k) but I've already paid for them (about $2k) via the financial website.

Since you're not leasing/buying another BMW, I don't think they will be too willing to cut you any slack. You will have to take care of the final payments, overage charges, and any damage that may exist on the car.

Nice to see someone else here actually drives their E90. I see too many people that do 5-8k miles a year around here.

Good luck with the G37.

Thanks mate! That's what I assumed. I put on 52k within 1yr 8m... LOVED every second of it too! I'll be back to BMW, lovin' the Z4 now and perhaps it'll be a weekend car within the next couple of years

try to see if someone is willing to take over your lease

then the fees associated with that won't be as much as having to cover all your remaining monthly payments...

That's an idea, however I didn't opt for either the ext. warranty or ext. maintenance so I'm not too sure how many offers I'll get.

Heh, I know the feeling. Did 60k miles on my last daily driver (which was leased 3 years with 15k/yr) since it was my only vehicle at the time. Fortunately, I can now distribute my miles over a few different vehicles but the E90 will still see 15-17k per year.

I drive too much.

I'm there with you, man... I managed to put 14k on my GF's Impreza over the past 7 months. I'm ALREADY have 500 miles on my G37 and I picked it up on Thursday night. Oy! At least I don't have to pay for this one.

and why would someone want to assume a lease with less than 4 months left on it, with overage miles?

Why certainly...

I've had my 335i since Dec '07, it was an exec car with 12k on it. I loved it, and still do. I had the premium package but no sport. The 335i handled like no other car I had ever driven, I really felt as if I was one with the car (corny I know, but true). The performance was fantastic and the minimal (non-existant) turbo lag was phenomenal.

The cons... Durability... practically non-existent. Within 19 months I've been at the dealer over 10 times with various problems. The latest being a faulty steering wheel lock module which, luckily my dealer covered even though I was over mileage. The largest repairs were for a crankshaft and fuel pump replacement both done at different dates. After countless half-engine lights and other orange and red warnings, once I hit 50k each morning I would break into a cold sweat wondering which light would illuminate next. I didn't opt to purchase an extended warranty because I knew that I was getting something else. Also, run-flats... over 40k miles on the car = 4 sets of run flats for me...

I picked up my Infiniti last Thursday, I have every option but the navigation. The ride is silk smooth and the finish inside has much better quality and appearance when compared to the 335i, IMHO. I also opted for the AWD version which proved outstanding this past Sunday when we received over 2 inches of rain here.

Of course the torque isn't there and the feeling of being glued to the road isn't as pronounced. The 335i was quicker and far more agile, but comparing the pros and cons I'd take the G37 over and over again... No more heroically avoiding bumps in the road which used to make me feel like I was riding bareback through the prairie.

Will I get a BMW, 3-Series again as an everyday car? Probably not, unless some major work is done with improving its reliability. Will I get a BMW again? I'd love to get the Z4 as a weekend car within the next couple of years, or a 5 Series when I get a little older (31 now). If I didn't have the problems that my 335i experienced, I DEFINITELY would have upped the warranty. Heck, my brother in law is a BMW salesman so I had the 'family deal' under wraps and I still opted out. I thank my lucky stars that I didn't finance this car. I'm much happier paying the remaining 4 months and not having to worry about something else going wrong.

+1, I see people with 1 year of ownership and have put only 5k on the car?! I love driving my car to much to put that little mileage on it. My milage is close to the OP's, Im at 1 yr 8 months and have already put 42k on it.

If the buy out is 28k, and the mileage is over 50k, your pretty much beat. A 335 with 50k on it isn't worth more than 22-23k. I was just in the same boat as you. I ended up getting a great deal on an 09 335. The dealership worked with me so I didn't have to incur such a big hit.

Yuppers, I've already paid for the mileage overage via the website at $0.16 a pop. Cost me over $2.5k... As for the remaining deprecation after the last 4 payments are paid, that's BMW's problem.
