Chevron ONLY! However, I use Shell occasionally when a Chevron is not around... I have used 76 and Mobile before until I heard they were 2nd tier gas. I will NEVER use Valero, Arco, Costco or any other supermarket brand gas.

I remember reading a whole thread a while back about some guy going in for a CEL a few times and they couldnt figure out what was causing it. When they asked the guy what gas he was using and they found out it was BP, they said that BMW recommends you stay away from BP because they have bad gas. BP is not even in the top gas recommended companies for fuel quality, so I'd change it up if I was you. I used to get BP too, now I switched it to Shell which is a block away from BP. 93 octane of course.

His case was the only one I heard about a dealership advising not to use BP though. Just go to Shell, it's more popular, and they have been around longer so they have a reputation to defend. lol

Notice how BP never makes it to the top gasoline stations... thats for a reason.
TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline. In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards. Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below. TOP TIER Gasoline Retailers: QuikTrip Chevron Texaco MFA Oil Co. Conoco Phillips 66 76 Entec Stations Shell The Somerset Refinery, Inc. Kwik Trip / Kwik Star Aloha Petroleum Tri-Par Oil Co. BP was Amoco, and the gas has always been a quality gasoline. It is my preferred brand in my cars and motorcycles, and no problems at all. That said, I try to go with BP, but I use Costco, Speedway, and Gas City gasolines with no ill effects. More importantly for me is to use 93 octane when available. Using ONLY a certain brand, to me, is a bit silly. If you use fuel from a station and you experience some odd engine running, then simply don't get fuel from there again. The biggest thing is water in the fuel, or not getting the advertised octane. That's happend at Shell, Amoco, BP, Speedway, etc... Gas stations are independently owned, so the owner can put the corporate sign up, but he/she can still do all kinds of things under cover of darkness. Also, try to get fuel from stations that are modern and newer as they have the most structurally sound holding tanks. Older stations with old and leaky tanks are prone to water infiltration, and possibley other dirt and sand contaminants. Plus, it's also important how often the station changes it's filters. |
