Need to settle this before purchase!!!

Okay here's my problem, I drove a 135i ( M-Sport Package ) and the AT was extremely fast....it was hair raising fast. I swear I thought at some points it was faster than DCT. Now my friend recently drove a 2007 335i and said that it was unbelievably slow.

I want a BMW 335i M-Sport Package AT, but my question is will it be like the 135? Did they put a new tranny in the M-sport package? Did they change the tranny from 2007 to 2009?

a. No change in Transmission between 2007-09

b. No change in transmission if M Sport is specified

c. Slowness experienced probably due to the 335i adapting to the owners driving style

I mean but it's really noticeable...I'm viewing some Youtube videos and hearing the "click" just seems all so much slower than the 135i I drove....Could this be because the car I drove was brand new? Also, is DCT coming out for the 335i to the United States in 2010?

The 135i is essentially a 335 squeezed down into a smaller body. The engine and transmission are identical. What you're experiencing is an adapted vs. non-adapted transmission. Now I suppose there's a chance that BMW programmed slight more aggressive progrm with 135 vs 335.

You're comparing YOUR subjective experience with a 135 with your FRIEND'S subjective experience in a 335? There are so many variables at play here.

Perhaps you and your friend have different ideas about what is fast. Or perhaps you were driving in "DS" mode and your friend in "D" mode.

I assume before buying the 335i AT, you will actually drive it and decide if its fast enough?

Also, smaller cars tend to feel faster then a larger car, it like riding a motorcycle, because there is so little mass and your open to the air it feels faster and not all motorcycle are fast. As it was pointed out above, it all subjective, go drive them both at the same time.

But the adaptive programing can change the experience, I known on my 335i when I am just taking it easy to work each day it adapts and feels sluggish and I have a MT but getting on it hard for a day or two that responsiveness comes right back.

Well... I wouldn't call a 335i slow... nor would I say so for a 135i...

I mean both cars are really nice, although I rather buy a 335 than the 135 (looks and I preffer the feeling of the 3 series).

If the sifting is not quick enough... or if the car is not fast enough... well.. over time you will feel that!! That is why you always buys more powerful cars, and not viceversa.

In my 330d I have noticed a small lag between actually presing down the pedal and the sifting in gears and actual "jump" forward of the car. However, I anticipate to that, and when passing a car, I usually press the pedal to the floor while I have the other car right at my side or just passed, (something I certainly wouldn't do if that lag wasn't there). Probably is because my driving style, cruising at the same speed, and driving usually smoothly. Just sometimes when there is a one lane in each direction, and I need to pass a car, then I just "fly by".

Now, I don't think that the 1 series will not have the same kind of lag.

probably is that the car being smaller your perception is different.

and if each one of you tried just one of the cars, that is a very easy explanation. Hell, even when I drive my car in Europe I think it is slow... cruising at speeds over 100-mph, until I start seeing cars, and then I realize the speed!

This cars are so well made, so stable, and so "drivable" (if that word actually exists)... it's a joy to drive one!

And trust me, the 335i is not a slow car by all means!

...go test drive a 6AT 335i? It's not like dealers don't have any available.
