Squeaky rear end !!!

Over the last two weeks my rear end has been developing a suspension type squeak. I didn't report at last weeks 38,000 mile service check as it wasn't that noisy but tonight it's noisier than ever. My wife even commented she heard it as I drove up the road and onto the drive from inside our house. When bouncing the car its pretty loud. Haven't had a chance to get underneath tonight but will get it on a ramp tomorrow. However does anyone have any thoughts. A joint, bushing, spring seat or the shock itself.

Had it on the ramp today and it seems like the sound is coming from the inner wish bone joint. As it is right next to the exhaust I guess the heat build up could have dried out the bushings. Called my dealer and they want it all day. Next available loan car ....... 4th September !!!!!! I'll have done another 4,000 miles by then and circumnavigated Europe. The noise is beyond waiting this long so I am chancing a visit to them tomorrow.

I had this in the winter actually, doing my head in so it was. But it disapeared after 2 or 3 days.

I had a similar thing over the weekend coming from the rear drivers side wheel/suspension. Lots of creaking noise when going over bumps but it stopped after a long drive.

I put it down to the wet weather?!?! but will be taking it in under warranty if it happens again

It's gotten worse over the last two weeks. As I drive between 600 and 1000 miles a week a long drive hasn't cured it. I had three weeks of carrying a lot of weighty kit in the back over bumpy Dartmoor, Peaks and Lakes roads. I also had new rear tyres fitted. Neither of these things probably had anything to do with the squeak but I question everything. I might be wrong but I think a bushing has failed due to exhaust heat.

Can you not try some spray grease or something in the bushes to see if it cures it for now???

Doh, couldn't find any previous info on searches but now found these

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ing+suspension

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ing+suspension

I have had mine checked. Service guy wanted me to drive up the road to demonstrate to the technician. Went to the car and bounced the rear end. The technician said 'Oh I don't think I need a demo, I'll get it on the ramp'. Service guy said he heard from the other side of the car park.

Needs to go back in to have the suspension dismantled and inspected then a full alignment. 1 to 2 days work apparently.

Looks like bushes at least. Not sure about the dampers.

Never said a word about them on previous service visits or today when it went on the ramp for diagnosis.

I'd suggest it could be the rear parking brake shoes/drums - it's done it on two e90s i've had now and an e46.

Definitely not. I know the creak you get from the parking brake when getting in and out of the car.

Pretty sure its the damper. Will know for sure at the end of the week.

Interesting.

I wonder if the dealer will attribute the problem with the damper (if it is the damper) to 'something' that falls outside of the warranty.

I hope that will not be the case.

I'd give the bushes a quick squirt of silicone grease/spray, see if the noise goes.

I can't for the life of me see it being a worn out bush at this early stage.

corroded bush? At that age? Not good.

Still, good news it's fixed.

Agreed but also consider the mileage - 38,000 in twelve months

I have a slight squeak/creak from the back end - actually sounds more like the upper seatbelt housing is rattling a bit.

It's going in on the 26th for the stuck middle seatbelt so I'm planning to mention it then. It's not a loud noise - more a vibrational rattle/creak from the NS rear - but I guess I'll get them to check the bushes just in case.

My noise was very loud and unbearable. Nothing like a slight trim squeak in the cabin.

Well mine's booked in for the seatbelt and creak/rattle.

Glad yours was sorted but also glad mine probably isn't the same issue! Hoping to have the car done while at the dentists next door (just over an hour)!
