Lightbulb -- Accident Damage E90 Help --

Hi all,

I've been reading up about the E90 thanks to this forum. Possibly one of the best I've been on. With all the detailed pictures, DIY topics, etc, etc.

Now I need a little help buying my first E90 (using it for commuting & towing). The one I'm currently looking at has had quite hard front inpact. I've bought a few accident damaged cars and fixed them up, etc but this one I feel will need a little more work. I'm fine with all 'bolt on' parts & welding.

I think it'll need a good jigging? I've contacted the salvage yard and they say there is no suspension damage.

Pictures; http://autos.blue-sock.com/clients/2...l&value=202312

Opinions please?

The parts I know I'll need;

- Bonnet
- Bumper
- Front 1/4's
- All Rads
- Both head lights
- Kidney grills
- Bumper holder
- Inpact bar
- Slam Panal

And a jig.

I guess it's pretty hard whats damaged judging from the pictures.

This E90 is less than half the price of others for sale though. I could strip the whole front end in around 4 hours, then take it to a jig. I just want to know if this kind of damage will 'jig out'? The parts second hand will cost sub £1000. I can do all the spraying, etc also.

Thanks for the input so far.

And yes, the car is a Cat D.

Look at picture 4. The front left wheel is pointing inward (positive camber). No suspension damage?!?!

My e90 had similar damage and the insurance company declared it as a 'total'.

So no one thinks it could be a good buy then?

I can have the whole front stripped in a matter of hours. Having a quick glance on eBay all the buy it now prices cost £900/£1200 max including any small extras.

The price is half the price of others for sale. I won't be able to afford a used one tbh, not this sort of spec any way.

What I really want to know is, will the chassis jig back to normal?

i wish i was as handy and was brave enough to undertake a mission like this. unfortunately this would really get you no where. if you want a good deal, go CPO. if it was a small dent or something, id say no problem, pick it up. an E90 M Sport in Lemans is awesome. but this damage def goes alot deeper than a dent. Dont do it. save your money. Let us know what you do.

Be REALLY careful with this car. I've had salvage title cars before that were perfectly fine, I'd never consider a BMW with one though. My car is in the shop as it was rear ended by a friend of mine who was following me home, the damage looked so minor he was going to pay for it himself out of pocket... it looked like nothing. When they got the car up on a hoist, absolute carnage. As soon as the shop told us $10k+ CAD we opted to go through insurance, the damage is fast approaching $20k... The damage appeared so minor that had I been looking for an accident car to repair, I would have pounced on it...

first of all, you really can't see the extent of the damage from looking at pictures on the internet. you need to see the car in person, and get it up on a lift to check it out.

Second, we are not pro body shop people here, so there is no way a bunch of guys on an internet forum are going to be able to tell you everything that is involved and exactly how much it's going to cost in the end.

third, if you are asking these kinds of questions, more than likely, you aren't a pro body shop person either. I really doubt you will be able to just bolt on a bunch of new body parts and fix that car. You really need to get a professional to look at this car and inspect the chassis and subframes. Remember, there is a reason why this car is totaled and is selling for so "cheap".

it may be possible, yes, but it will probably cost a lot more than you think.
