335d cooling?
Do any of you 335d owners leave their cars to cool/idle after a hard run?
Gave mine a right thrashing yesterday and it doesn't make a whisper once turned off - I'm used to car creaking, big fans blowing, etc for a good while after they have been switched off! Maybe diesels are just better at cooling?! |

Cool - so not only does it do great mpg, go like an express train and handle like a big Elise, it also makes no fuss when you drive it hard.
Does this car have any weaknesses?! Because I'm struggling to find any! |

I would always allow a turbocharged engine (be it petrol or diesel) to idle for a minute or so after a fast run before shutdown.
No fan action here either.

Next time we're down in Cornwall we'll have to meet up. Up North atm (better weather lol) but might be down sometime soon

i find mine is hot on the bonnet even hours after its stood, must be the heat from the turbos rather than the engine itself, dont think it does any harm to just drive a little slower towards home to cool the oil a bit.

Like any good workout ... warm up and warm down. Turbo's regardless of whether they're petrol or diesel run hot, allowing them to cool will increase their lifespan. That said some seem to die anyway.

Well just ensure that you are in warranty or extend the warranty on these type of cars. Turbo blows up get another one free !

Last few miles take it easy. Pull up take seat belt off etc wait a few more seconds then shut down.

In 90+ degree weather my 328i is always running a loud cooling fan. Sometimes it runs. in addition, the loud turbine sounding auxiliary fan. In the 335d however, I have yet to hear the fan when it is 90+ outside, or the auxiliary fan. If you live in a hot climate you might consider this. I have noticed the AC runs cooler in the 335-diesel than the 328i. The hot 328i engine probably heated the AC system.

Cheers all!
Dr Dave - shout when you are down - always up for a meet. The bonnet does stay hot for a while - especially a black bonnet. I have to wait for it to cool before I can wash it - yet again...! The last two miles before I reach home (out in the countryside) are slowish anyway so maybe that'll be enough? |
