Mirror not performing its duties!

My mirror has all of a sudden stopped tilting when i select reverse!

I can adjust it manually using the little pad on the door so i know the mechanism is still working....

There is a sensor/switch (or something like that) that requires cleaning, thats what the dealer said anyway. I've read posts about this problem. The dealer typically cleans the offending sensor/switch and if that doesn't work, they'll replace it (the sensor not the mirror itself)

The switch that selects which mirror to use also doubles up as an on and off switch for the mirror reverse. If your's doesn't do it, flick the switch over and put it in reverse and bathe in downward tilting reverse mirror goodness.

Mine is always in the Drivers side position - because I used to have an E46 M3 with this fucntion, I learnt that then.

It seemed like common sense TBH.

However, my E90 has never done it no matter where the switch is.

Its a 2007 335D M-Sport.

I was just assuming it was another cost cutting thing. That sensor deal sounds promising...

Always thought the nearside tilting mirror on reverse was an extra cost option only. It might be standard on the M3.
Cheers!

This was a working feature up until about a week ago when it all of a sudden stopped tilting.
It's not the end of the world but it bugs me when things that should work, don't

Cheer up.

Manual seats = lighter = greater speed! Good thing I reckon.

Would like further weight saving measures to be employed on M Sport spec BMs and wouldn't mind sacrificing some luxuries to do so.

Mine seriously messes about! I know all about the switch in the drivers mirror possition and yes it does tilt down when in the passenger possition like it's supposed to.

But randomly, sometimes i can come back to the car, and the passenger mirror be pointed at the sky, in towards the car, outwards, and all kids of others!

Could this be the sensor thingy?
