Stupid washing question...

Okay the new car has been fully prepared and then paint sealed/Supagarded - at the moment it looks amazing. Proper deep sheen and no scratches or swirl marks.

On advice from others, I've just got a lambswool wash mitt and half a dozen microfibre towels (was using the sponge and chamois provided in my Supagard "pro" pack). How do you actually use the mitt?! Just like a sponge? Dip it in soapy water (I use proper car shampoo) and wash as normal?!

Cheers all!

Safest way is the '2 bucket method'. Soapy water in one, water for rinsing in the other.
Dunk mitt in the soap, spread on car, rinse mitt in clean water and so on.
The idea being - dirt will go into the mitt and you don't want to get this in the soapy water and re-spread on the car.

Rinse car off and dry!

Good luck
Chris

Agree that the 'two bucket method' is the best way with shampoo.

I do something similar, but use a foam attachment on my pressure washer to apply copious amounts of shampoo (which usually takes almost all of the dirt off) and rinse the mitt in a bucket of clean water in between panels if the car has any significant dirt left on it.

Once you've dried to car off, you may find the odd water mark. I usually go over mine with a microfibre cloth and instant detailer spray to really bring out the shine:

Nice one!
I use a normal hose with a semi pressure (Hozelock) attachment - lowish pressure but enough to blast everything off.

Very lucky down here in Cornwall - we have soft water that leaves pretty much no marks when it dries! Have got the microfibre towels though - that and the mitt just arrived.

Wife has the car today so will give it a go when she gets back.

2 bucket method is for rinsing the dirt out of the mitt it wont necssarily get the all the grit out if it though. You must get a gritt guard for the bucket with the soap.

Rinse (foam lance of you have one), wash with 2 buckets one with gritt guard, dry then wax. Enjoy !

Don't use sponges or chamois !!! Well I don't anyways.

Two bucket method used with new mitt and towels. Certainly worked well! Easy too.

Trouble is the paint is looking SO good at the moment (proper deep mirror-like sheen) that any mark is going to be very obvious! Oh well!

Hiya,

I've heard about these grit guards before but I've never seen one for sale.

What are they and where can I get one from? I've looked in Halfords and I can't find one there.

Cheers
