Cruise Control Failure
Been having a similar problem with my cruise control to this:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...+control+fault Car has been into dealer 3 times & is booked in again for 2 days next week. If I stop the car (not really convenient on a motorway!!) switch ignition off & immediately restart the problem disappears. Sometimes it doesn't fail at all. 1st time they changed the clutch switch 2nd time they had it for 1 day & couldn't find the problem but returned the car as I needed it. 3rd time they had it for 2 days, said they'd changed a control unit & it was sorted. When I picked the car up I drove out of city centre tested the cruise on open road & it failed again so I turned round, went back to the dealers & took the technician who worked on it out for a ride without switching the ignition off to show him. Stopped at some lights, ignition off & on & it worked. Technician is baffled so he will be contacting BMW before I take it back next week. Anyone had similar issues? Cheers Steve |

It sounds like a reboot of the system clears the fault - so I would look towards the control unit - but as you say that has been changed.
One for BMW technical I reckon! Try and find out what they do to fix it Steve, I'd be interested to know.

I think that is pretty much standard practice these days in the case of faults on these cars.

I've had this message in the outside lane of M4 near Heathrow during peak hour run on a Friday evening.
The RAC man who came out (BMW Assist said take it to stealer) noted a fault with accelerator cable being flagged. He just unplugged the cable from bulkhead to engine - cleaned it and reattached and it was ok. The voltage level is only mV so it can be some dirt that causes the cruise control failure to occur. Try cleaning your accelerator cable link to engine.

Had car back & apparently it's my fault .
BMW say that if, after replacing the clutch switch (which they did the 1st time it went in), the fault still occurs it is down to "customer behaviour". I have a copy of the BMW service memo that they sent to the dealer. If someone can tell me how to attach an image from my HDD I'll post it. Used the car on a good motorway run last night & it seems to be working ok but time will tell. |
