I got the iPod Adapter for my BIRTHDAY!!!

My amazing girlfriend got me the iPod adapter for my birthday. I had been calling my SA to get pricing for weeks and he kept stalling me, this was because him and my girlfriend were in kahoots!

She gave it to me earlier in the week and Im at the dealership right now (they have WiFi) waiting on them to install it, they are charging me for one hour as stated in the BMW Bulletin and installation instructions

Hopefully all goes well. I will keep everyone posted!

Well it was too good to be true! I had specifically told the service advisor "BMW says it takes one hour to install, I can show you the instructions. Can you please tell me how much it will be because I don't want to pay more money if it takes your technicians longer than one hour" I emailed him the instructions and product bulletin and he called back and said that they would only charge me for one hour.

I booked my appointment for today signed the paperwork which sated "1 hours labor + shop supplies + tax" I'm sitting there waiting on them to finish and posting on the boards and the service advisor came to me and asked me to come with him. We walk into the shop where I see the head technician working on the car then they both tell me that its now going to take them 3 HOURS to complete

I made it very clear to him that I was unhappy about this situation and felt like they were holding my feet to the fire, they gave me a loaner X3 (awful car) and I came to work. I didn’t want to kick up to much s**t as I want them to do a good job and put my car back together. I'm planning on talking to the manager and possibly the owner of the dealership when I go back to pick it up but if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

I called a couple of stealers in MD and both gave me estimates of 3 hours
of labor. What's on the instructions is what is "suggested" to do the job.

Here is what one stealer replied:
"We are aware that it does suggest 1 hour for installation of the kit on your car. Upon review of the instructions, our shop foreman determined that at least 3 hours of labor time would be required to properly install and program the kit. I do apologize for the discrepancy, let me know if you're still interested in the kit."

My dealer installed it in about two hours including programming. Mine was the first they had ever installed, which made me very nervous, but they did a great job and I love it.

I know people had been quoted more than the suggested one hour thats why I specifically asked him and he said they could do it in an hour and that thats is all they would charge me.

if you've already signed a paper stating that the job only requires 1 hr of work, they have no legal ground to charge you more, at elast that's how it is in Ontario, Canada. On the work order, they cannot charge you more than what they quoted you.

Update?

And you wonder why I decided to avoid this accessory. Probably more trouble than it is worth, at least for me.

Mine is in getting the install done today.

I am being charged 2 hrs (@$99 and hour) - I bought the kit from Bobby Rahol (I tink that's how you spell it) for $271.

The s/w update alone takes 5.5 hours - the tech doing it at Momentum Houston (SW) is the resident expert in this (apparently) so the install was apparently not an issue - went smoothly.

My only complaint is that they let the car sit for a few hours so they need it overnight to finish the s/w update - but they gave me an E46 loaner (I know ther Pre-owned Sales Manager).

Way off topic. A comment - someone a while ago said they were disappointed at the amount of wind that comes through the open window of an E90 compared to an E46. My observation is that it isn't any different - not tha tI could notice anyway.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I got a call from them yesterday morning telling me that the install had been completed and the total installation came to $400.68

I emailed the service advisor and told him that I was extremely disappointed with everything that had transpired and that when I come to pickup my car I want to talk to the general manager. I got to the dealership and the service advisor went and spoke to the gm and asked then came and told me that his manager said he was willing to split the additional two hours (3 hour total) so I would in effect have to pay for two hours installation. I was not having that so I told him I was willing to pay for 1.5 hours installation which seems fair but he said the manager would not do that so I told him I wanted to speak to him and off to his office we went.

I told the manager that I didn't want to be talking to him anymore than he wanted to talk to me but I was very unhappy with everything at first he would not budge on the price and we got into a pretty heated conversation about the whole situation and in the end he told the service advisor that he had clearly led me to be believe it was sonly going to be one hour and to just charge me for one hour ($133.00 including 6% sales tax)

Having a heated conversation with the manager felt quit liberating

Im going to take some pictures and post them as Im not 100% sure I have the latest software based on JSpiras photos.
