Intercooler pipe - 335d

Thanks whoever posted a thread about oil on the red intercooler pipe - I checked mine and although no oil was leaking, it was quite mucky - being replaced under warranty.

They are also sorting the stuck middle rear seatbelt (under so much tension that it can't be freed) and a rattle coming from the NSR seatbelt housing (sounds very minor but it's annoying).

In on the 9th September and they are giving me a courtesy car - hope it's something interesting - but bet it's a 118i or similar...!

Kind of nice to have a separate party check the car over (it was Approved Used with 6 months BMW warranty still left, then another 6 months under the AU scheme) and okay it all.

And yes, the tyre pressures on the door are correct - 2.1bar at the front, 2.6 at the rear. I'm going to try 2.3 on the front for a bit - 2.1 (30psi) just seems too damn low to me! Should improve the ride a bit - it does crash over some bumps slightly.

No problem.

In what way was it "mucky"? Normally a fine spray of oil is present that collects dust particles and gives a mucky appearence on the pipe, as there is quite a good covering from the undertray then it shouldn't really get mucky under there. Good it's being sorted though.

I would say it was oily muck - just black gudge (!) but only thinly spread.

Front tyres now dropped to 2.3 bar (from 2.6) - I'm still convinced 2.1 bar is way too low!

Do let us know what they do, whether they replace the pipe or just clean it up and replace the hoseclamps........

Mines booked in for the same work on the 8th as its caked in oil, along with a couple of other bits, like the drivers door not always releasing, the idrive keeps crashing and the ipod connector cuts the passenger side speakers if you go over a bump...

So it sounds like you had an oil leak then.......good job you've sorted it. Can't help you with your front tyres (especially if it was a sarcastic comment) as people have their own preferences what the settings are regardless of what is recommended by BMW, it also makes a difference if you run rft or not.

Dr Dave - being completely replaced.

Jude - I'm on the OEM RFTs - ride quality is definitely better now.

Jinxy - I actively avoided i-drive. The inlaws had a 535d and i-drive basically killed the car. It went back after four months.

I quite like the idrive, its crashed thou about 5 times in the last week. I also get after being on the phone for a few minutes an electrical crackle for a few seconds which is a bit odd...Will see what happens with it after the 8th

When I got mine replaced, I noticed the car was a bit more torquey - low down.

I had not noticed the car any less powerful beforehand though - as it must have degraded very gradually.

finally got mine back today and it does seem to have much more punch from low down. Bit surprised really as it wasn't like the car was short of torque before but now standing starts in D have the TC light going

Hmm, is this likely to be something I should look into on a 2007 335d?

Can't seem to remember the original post??

Lift the bonnet, and look down and towards the drivers side you should see a red pipe which in mine was caked in brown gunk. Its now bright red and shiny with metal bands round it

Mate, dont get worked up. I left my car like it for over a year with no issues, was still Banging out decent 1/4er's

Its a warranty joB so wont cost a penny.
You need to spot it in your engine Bay, you may not have this issue.

Raging - my local dealers seemed to know all about it. Mine wasn't filthy but gunky enought to ask about it - I have a feeling it's one of those things they only do if asked. Thank feck for this website! Now rather shiny with shining metal bands all around it. It's easy to spot (someone posted a pic of theirs a while back - that's how I knew what to look for - worth a quick search).

I'm now 100% confident in the car and did indeed get one heck of a good deal on it.

I aint had mine changed, just re-fitted and it aint come back so no issue there.

Dont think i had any issue anyway as the oil level didnt drop at all.
