Headlight E92 recall

Mine went in for an oil service last week and they carried out a recall order on the back of the fuse board to stop the headlights switching on randomly when the ignition was off.

The remedey was to cut a wire at the back of the fuse.

I have just come back from a 1500 mile road test through France (nice smooth roads) and the fucking rattle from a loose cable behind the iDrive screen has just about turned me into a homicidal maniac.

The evidence so far: No rattle before the service - cut wire at back of fuse board - 1500 miles of me being pissed off. Guess who I am calling at 8am tomorrow?

Eek... don't ya just love the rattles. Pity there's no way of getting money back for mental anguish.

This statement could explain what happened to me.

I had been out on my bike one evening to come home seeing my lights on. At first I thought it was just the sun reflecting but as I got closer it was the lights on which confused me as I was sure that I hadn't left the car like that. They wouldn't switch off until I had put the key in the ignition.
My dealer said that they had never heard of this before and as it never happened again I have not given it another thought.

I am not totally mad after all!

I'll expect a letter/phonecall perhaps from my local BMW dealer then, seeing as they have left 4 answer phone messages telling me my E92 335d will require it's first service now and it's important I get it done! Hmmm sold it last April.

Rattles are a pain in the arse though, once you hear them that's it.............you always hear them!!

Is this fault regardless of where the light switch is positioned, or in auto mod only?

As I understand it the lights can just switch on at random when the ignition is off.

Dont know if this is an E92 issue only but the bit of paper dealing with the recall was headed E92.

Not a very elegant solution though - chop a few wires off the back of the fuseboard and hope for the best ....... You have to wonder what the fuse did in the original design?
