No plates required

You do not have to have front plate holes drilled in your car. The car is your property and you can do what you want with it. Whether your state requires front plates or not the dealer is not allowed to force you into drilling the holes. In fact your can refuse delivery of the car. Many dealerships require you to sign a paper that says you refused the hole drilling but that's so they can cover their butt later if you were to get a ticket and say ... but I don't have front license plates.

Raven: The OP is doing ED. Different rules.

Alpine: No it's the law in Germany, 2 plates. There's no way you're going to get around it unfortunately.

How do you figure? What you said is just plain wrong. German law requires front plates. End of story.

EVERYONE? That's really hard to say. Maybe "most" ? No reason why not to keep them although they are good really only as a souvenir.

Yes, But there are many ways of putting up a front plate without drilling holes! I have made at least 5 requests and they all have been confirmed so far... We'll see what will happen on Oct 19th which is the day I pick the car up in Munich.

I assure you I will have front plates but the bumper hopefully will not be drilled. I will post the outcome in here for sure.

I recall seeing a plate holder, for a Japanese car, that was attached to the car by using the tow hook. I wonder if the same could be done when doing a ED.

it will have holes. they won't repaint and repair your bumper for nothing. The only way to get it replaced or fix is damage your front bumper and they'll replace or repair it. I got my body shop to repair the two holes.

Yeah BUT did you do ED? It doesn't sound like it..... We are talking about the lic plate holes on ED cars.... Otherwise non of the cars at my local dealer have holes drilled yet and front plates are required in WA State..... But many people get away without the front plates just fine.

WTF

I thought you were planning to do ED and haven't gone yet. You mean already did ED and came home?

Remount your German plate on the front of your car using the license plate holder that is installed in Munich. That is what I'm doing, hoping to avoid getting stopped for failure to have a front plate, I live in MD and they require a front plate.

Who is confirming these requests? If it is your CA, they have no authority in this regard (ie, neither does BMWNA ED). It is my understanding that the Delivery Center in Friemann, Germany, calls the shots in this regard.

no matter what your CA says...there's no way around it. you will find your bumper with at least 2 holes in it. I tried to inquire about this when i did ED in 2005...and pretty much gave up for my 2008 ED.

I'm in Cali and my dealer said no problem with no front plate, but I must sign waiver like Raven said.

dude...tune to the right channel man...we're talking about ED (European Delivery). Not US delivery. You can have them drill the license plate on your front seat if you wanted if you just sign a waiver here.
