Electrics Hook up
Just wondered if anyone knew if there where any Pos and Neg wires that can easily be used to wire in a phone charger direct, so as not to have to use the 12v socket, as I want it to be a permanent fitting .
Also, I would like to fit 2 12V sockets to the rear of the centre console, for passengers in the back to use, same question really. I know this is an extra some cars have. Cheers, to all the sparkys in advance. |

Have you tried looking at the DIY guides? This one may help.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29773 Also for the phone you could always take the power from the cigarette lighter, that's what I did to hardwire my sat nav. In the DIY section there are a number of posts on how to hardwire accessories.

pretty good , had a look, any ideas for the front though ?
Ie, a mobile phone holder that needs a simple pos and neg to wire into ? I would happily splice into any cable after a probe test, just not sure with the huge electronics and computer stuff that BMW have, which is not like my previous cars ? |

....but didn't a previous post of yours mention that the car had a Nokia car kit fitted? That will have been spliced from a point in the cars loom. Simply find the car kit interface box (prob tucked up behind the glovebox) and then tap off the positive and negative wires.
This is exactly what I did when I fitted my car holder in the E93 vert. and it is a 10 minute job. |

You won't - the installer will prob have taken off the feed from the fusebox (located in the glovebox). There will prob be inline fuses fitted that have crimp connectors attached to each side of the fuse holder. Simply unplug the cable from the connector, snip off the crimp and then attach a new crimp with an addition feed for your phone charger. Make sure you attach it after the fuse, not before!
It is best to then use a choc-block to join the wires to your phone charger. Makes it easier if you swap phones and hence swap charger. The nokia interface is a black box approx 6" x 4" x 2"high. If you locate this you will be able to unplug the current cradle although you may find there is a secondary cable that is linlked to an antenna. Could be a tax disc holder type or a small T-bar one fitted inside the dash or above the rear view mirror.. |

Looks like there are two wires coming into the connector on the left. Use a VOM to determine whether this is POS and NEG. If the VOM indicates neither, check each against a known ground. If the VOM shows 12V then that wire is the live and any ground should suffice. Looks like there's a ground in the middle.
What does the tethered wire connect to? If it is a power point then use the VOM to determine the live and the neutral (I'm betting the black wire is the neutral and the yellow is the live).

Going to get my probe on it this weekend, and splice in a connection point so I can Hardwire, Ipod Charging (Harmon Kardon Ipod Interface) and 2 rear 12v sockets, for the little one to use in the back (Nintendo DS charging etc).

When I got my LCI I installed a brodit hard wired htc charger, simply removed the ashtray and installed the sunglasses holder and then used the ashtray plug to connect the phone charger. Now have it all neatly hardwired with no cutting or tapping and also somewhere to put the shades

For a neat connection you might be able to get the two parts of the connector where the cig. lighter connects with the wiring harness. Then, using short lengths of wire make a Y-adapter that could go in between the two OEM connectors. Like:
