Alarm Coding

I went to the dealer today to have the alarm I DIY'd coded. This alarm has the updated siren. I was informed that it could not yet be done as the alarm I have require software version 23 that is not availabel yet. Anyone have any info on this. You would think that the software would be available when the alarm is. So what does come first the chicken or the egg!!!!

I have the same problem. I had the dealer install my alarm that I purc from Morristown BMW and the car was in the shop 2 days before they found out that the software won't be avail til Dec., 2006. I was given the option of waiting or buying the older version siren for $119.00 additional. I opted to wait.

I ordered my car with the alarm. But when I went to pick it up in July, they informed me that they could not program it, due to a software delay. I just got a call yesterday saying they got the software and siren (and whatever else is associated) that they have what they need. FINALLY.

It seems the old alarm systems siren had a bad part number and the software would not program. The service guy did tell me that the new software is completly different than what BMW has done in the past. Whatever that means. I still would like to know why the parts were released before the software update was available. Or is the service department just inept at recoding my alarm. Can anyone shed some light on this!!!!

I talked to BMWNA today about the alarm coding issues. The answer I got just blew me away. They think the update will be released in Oct. However they did not know of any problem with the alarm systems or its wiring, so the update if it is available may or may not help. When I pushed for more answers the response I got was "Well we're not really technical people here just customer service advisors" I was also told that there is really no one else to speak with about this other than the dealer. I said so I'm just kind of out in the wind on this, and the response was "Well yea". I feel like- you got your car- we got your money - Good Luck!!! The dealer said check back in a couple of months maybe we'll know something then. WTF!!!!
