Vehicle Check - BMW Insured Warranty

Hi All

CBS in centre display is showing a Vehicle Check (car on ramp) due this month. Anybody know if I "have" to get this done to maintain the BMW Insured Warranty?

Rang up BMW IW and the numpty on the phone didn't have a clue. Kept telling me to contact a dealer. Requested him to ask somebody a bit more knowledgable....but he was the most senior person in the office at the time.

Waiting for a call to be returned on Monday.

If your cars showing 'vehicle check' why don't you want it doing?? Surely there's an issue that needs sorting out or am I missunderstanding you??

This is from the warranty handbook:

So if you miss a service, even this vehicle inspection, then it could invalidate the warranty.

I've just had mine done, from memory it was circa £80

it's not saying there's anything wrong with car.....see the link below.

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/owner/ser...4ubmV0,00.html

All for the sake a stealer stamp in the service book.

It's just that I can't justify paying stealer labour rates when a competent person can easily do it themselves.

If it's the vehicle check described here ....

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/owner/ser...4ubmV0,00.html (click the CBS Symbol Index link)

Then I find it a total con. Sounds like you drive in, they put it on a ramp and have a nosey around, about 30 minutes absolute max.

Sounds like the keyfob holds all the answers. Is there a dealer near you that you could ask them to 'flash' the key and give some input as to what needs checking and anticipated cost before you book it in.

Not sure you've really got much choice. All part of BMW ownership. They claim 'CBS' allows for cheaper maintaince however this will invariably be more often (who knows if it'll work in your favour or the dealer until you calculate this when you flog the car).

In respect of the vehicle check mine is showing it to be due in 3,500 miles and the oil change/brake fluid is due in 6,000 miles or April 2012. I also have extended warranty.

As the vehicle check is essentially a waste of time and money, can i defer this to combine it with the oil change do you think?

Of course you have to do it, its part of the servicing reigeme for the car.

It's effectively all the checking part of the old Inspection services, seperated out and done seperately. It's important that BMW do it - after all, if they are not given the opportunity to spot things going wrong before they do, it's a bit much to expect them to pay when it all goes wrong..

Double check but to keep in the terms of the warranty you have to do it. You cannot exceed 1000miles from when a warning comes up. If it says in 3000miles then in 4000miles you warranty is invalid.

But with a date. I am not too sure on how to calculate that.

Phone them is the easiest thing and explain. They are pretty clear on t&cs at least they were to me.
