Got my brakes done today
Hi Folks booked my car into a BMW Independant Specialist yesterday to have the rear pads replaced (would normally do this myself but done have any reset tools). Anyway left the car and got a called that the fronts needed done also and that the front disc would need replaced withing the next 6 months.
Anyway i told him to just do the pads front and rear. When i went to collect the car i was charged £294 for supply and fit they used genuine bmw pads and sensors is this a fair price??

Do you mean The Dealers are a rip off?? From what i was told they Charge £103 labour makes sense to go to the specialists as it wont affect your warranty.

When I worked for Toyota, we had one labour rate for Toyota and another one for Lexus, Lexus was almost double....same technicians
People pay it. |

It was Monkee Ibrox Business park Very friendly staff and i would highly recomend them.
I wasnt sure if they would use genuine parts but i was assured they were as He said there is less likely anything to go wrong when using genuine parts although if you wanted non genuine parts they will fit them.

Al i used Weavers in the past again very good service although i heard Ronnie had immigrated to Australia and the boy that worked for him bought it and kept the name but im sure the work will be the same but im sure they dont use genuine parts unless requested.

Yeah >£100 per hour for a mechanic that probably went to the same school as PC World salespeople.

Pads - £130 per axle Inspection charge £23 So front and rears would be £283 at main dealer prices. On that basis your independant is certainly not cheap. |

Did the quote also include the pad sensors? And did it also include the labour for fitting? If so, that is extraordinarily cheap for a main dealer, as effectively they haven't charged you for the labour at all...

Yip have to agree with E92fan the rear pads are £68+vat from the dealer and the sensors are roughly £15 the front pads are a little dearer and as i found out the front pads on the sport and 5 series pads (which i didn't have a clue about).
NFS i was quoted £170 odds for supply and fit from my main dealer

£130 per axle = £65 pads + £15 sensor + £50 labour Both axles = £260 plus £23 'inspection' fee = £283 Because of the inspection fee it could easily be £170 for one axle e.g. £ 140 + £ 30 My experience is that the dealers have several rates and often contradict themselves when quoting. |
