My car only likes BP Ultimate Diesel!

As per the title, my car only seems to run smoothly on BP Ultimate Diesel. I put some Tesco diesel in the other day and now it sounds like a London Taxi!

Anyone else experienced this?

Not as severely as that. Car felt flat after a few tankfulls of tesco stuff 18 months ago. Only run V-power now.

she must have expensive tastes then ! ive tried my 335D with regular and premium diesel on different occasions and honetly cant tell the difference. In my petrol car though the difference between the two grades can be felt quite significantly ?!

You mix it, or not run one for a period of time you wont notice much. I had 2-3 tankfulls of tesco shiight before i noticed the car feeling flat.

How much more is BP Ultimate where you are? Its 10p more a litre here but I think its worth the extra.

Only had the one rating of Diesel in my immediate neighbourhood (or so I thought).

I have tried the Ultime V-power when back home after a long trip and always thought the engine seemed smoother and more linear.

Couldn't quite put that down to the nice long run, or the fuel.

Drove back from the UK a month ago and my average fuel consumption barely moved (rolling from the beginning of the year) up to 34, over about 1000 miles, using standard fuel.

Was in Luxembourg on Monday. Drove there with normal Diesel. Filled up with some Ultimate and noticed again the smoother, more refined, instant and quieter pull. That was 400 Km and my fuel economy has raised to 34.8 over that short trip.

Searched and found a Garage in CH only 5 KMs from me that sells BP Ultimate (higher cetane than normal).

I'll stick another tank of the Ultimate in to check.

But pretty certain now that the smoother, more confident and powerful delivery is attributable to the better Diesel. It is just smoother on part throttle. I like it. A lot.

D.

Only used to run Shell V Power in my E46 M3 and I did notice the difference primarily because Shell V Power is even higher grade than the other premium brands 97 vs 98 octane I believe.

In my oil burner I haven't notice a thing different between any brand or grade and I have tried them all.
