Blackberry Users/Experts: Help!!

Im looking into Blackberry phones.. non-pearl version. Possibly Curve.

Main reason I want to switch my current phone is because of absence of 3G/Internet capability.
My previous phone had 3G. I thought it was useless, but now that I don't have that option anymore, I realized how useful that feature was.

Stupid me, I just found out blackberry only uses EDGE/Wi-Fi connection. No 3G.
what the h*ll...

so my question is, how fast is internet speed on the blackberry? Since Wi-Fi won't be available everywhere I go, I need 3G-like access(pretty much anywhere where you have reception).

I will only use the web for quick access to, email/ebay accts/finance info/university accts/driving directions.
I won't be browsing the web or anything serious, I just need the internet for those "emergency" moments.
If its painfully slow however, I rather not use it. Any 0.02 appreciated.

internet speed depends on which carrier you have, and where your location is. so it will vary

i have sprint with an 8330 curve, and it's faster than my old verizon blackberry with 8830 world edition. also compared my internet side by side with my buddy's ATT 8330 curve and my provider seems to have faster internet. but that's just me. it will definitely be different where you live

If you're at Verizon, the Tour (9630) and the Storm (9530) are both 3G. Also, like Blake said, the new Curve (8900) and the Bold (9000) are both 3G.

IMHO the only reason why you need 3G on a BB is for faster sending/receiving of email, general data, and youtube or Pandora. The internet sucks on the BB Browser (although it has gotten a lot better than before).

I have the Tour (my 8th BlackBerry) and I think its a great phone especially for what it is meant to be used for, but not for internet browsing.

5.0 has been out for sometime now (leaked versions at least) and the browser still sucks (albeit being updated). RIM won't be able to roll out a decent browser until it just dumps the design of the current OS and revamps it. The current OS takes too much resources away from the browser.

Yep. The Tour is my 3rd BlackBerry and it's the best one. Sure there is still lag, but it's minimal. And even though the last 2 BB's I had were also 3G, this one feels a lot faster when browsing an intense website that usually takes a while to load.

The current bold is the 9000. The Bold 8900 is the Onyx.

Thanks. That guy got me all mixed up. The 8900 is a curve, not a bold.

the trackball is the biggest flaw blackberry has had so far. they jam, get dirty, have to be replaced, etc. the trackpad is supposedly a great advancement as far as navigation on the phone is concerned. not only that, but the bold 2 is much faster, has more memory, and runs BBOS 5.0 native. it will be a significant improvement over the bold 9000 for sure. i'll be getting one 0-day for sure.
