Just Installed JB+, Long Crank?!?!?!?

I just installed my JB+ today and took her for a drive for about 30 minutes. Due to traffic I only got to open it up once, but I loved the power increase (running it at 50%).

I went outside to take my car to the bank just now and I got the dreaded 3-4 second crank. My car has 2300 miles on it, not even a month old. I shut it off immediately.

I'm letting it cool off before pulling the JB+ to diagnose the issue. Could this be from the JB+? Even if I only ran it for 30 minutes TOPS?

I'm very worried and frustrated.

Is this normal while the ECU adapts? Is it just the HPFP?

Thanks.

That's not normal. I never had a lick of trouble with mine and I'm running at 75%. I've connnected/disconnected it about 3 times and never any trouble. The only issues I've ever heard about with the JB+ is sometimes one of the pins inside the connectors might slide out and not make contact. I don't think you would get this type of reaction though. Did you buy the JB+ new? If so, contact Mike@n54tuning or contact Terry at BMS directly. The both of them are very quick to respond to their customers. Don't get frustrated! It's probably something simple. Best of luck.

The TMAP sensor does not interact with the fuel pump in any direct way. So a direct relationship isn't possible. It may just be that the pump was weak and the extra few HP pushed it over the edge.

So now that I've gotten 1 long crank, is it safe to say I should avoid driving it altogether until I can take it in to the dealership? Is it impossible to say?

I've seen plenty of people talk about getting the long crank for weeks without doing anything (i dont plan on doing that). Is this the norm?

Thanks

I assume you didn't get the BT scan tool along with the jb+. If you did scan the car for codes, if you see codes related to fuel pressure its most likely the hpfp. Otherwise take it to the dealer, and bitch about it. Demand a new pump. Just remember to take the Jb+ out. Good luck...

Just drive it. The dealer wont change it till you throw a fuel pump code anyway.

I'm getting a BT tool in the mail tomorrow.

I drove it tonight with the JB+ off in hopes that something would happen, but alas she ran perfectly.

Took a little longer to start (rather than instantly kicking over it took 3-4 cranks for it to start). We'll see how it does in the morning from a cold start.

I think I'll leave the JB+ off for now while we wait for AMS to come online with an HPFP fix

I can tell you my experience and you can take it from there...
I was a beta tester for the JB+.
I had used the JB1 for about a year with no issues...
After using the JB+ for a couple of months at 1/2 setting on 93 octane, it threw a 1/2 engine light, but didn't go into limp mode, and then went into "check engine soon" light...
Had a BT scan showed no secret codes for tunes, but did show misfire .
Took it into BMW said it was 29F3 fuel pressure low sensor. Which they replaced.
Put back JB+ and it started experencing long crank time.
Complained again to BMW and brought it back in again , the tech said he would replace the HPFP, which they DID NOT, but then said it was an O2 sensor.
Been driving since then, with more long cranks, with the JB+ at less than 1/2 and last week, the car died.
They had to tow it in, sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders.
They've had the car for several days and said they replaced the HPFP and an injector.
I can't say if any of this is related to the use of the JB+, but this is what's happened with me.

Just a little update on the JB+ issue, my BT tool came in the mail today and I checked the codes, no codes were thrown for the fuel pump.

If I just got one long crank and no code, the dealer wont replace the pump right?

I've driven 300 miles since the long crank without the JB+ on and no issues. Fires right up.

It took me several times of going there and complaining until the last time, the car finally broke down and they had to come tow it in. It was only then, that they replaced the HPFP and 3 injectors..
Ive been driving for over 40 years and have owned almost every brand of car, high end and low end... and I have NEVER broken down before, with an engine failure...
Ths is my first BMW owned and I will think very hard about owning a 2nd BMW again...

I don't mean to sound like a n00b, but what is a JB+?

The JB is not the cause and I would hold onto it...actually you should go open the drawer, take it out, go pop your hood and put the dame thing on there and go have some fun

side note I have had 3 long cranks in the last 2 days and my car only has 1155 miles on it. I am pissed but then again if it happens a lot before 18000 miles I can lemon it and get something else...like a prius

The only real solution to the fuel pump problem is to exchange the BMW...

It's very easy to make light of this...but there definitely seems to be an issue with the JB+ and long cranks, leading to failures of the HPFP and injectors.
We laugh when BMW is footing the expense, however once they catch wind of the related reasons and someone is rejected a warranty claim...
it may be an entierely different issue...

not to jump on you or anything but what proof do you have of the above statement? I mean 2 cars may have had problems but to blantantly call out a whole product sounds a little suspect.

Firstly, I am not "blantantly calling out a whole product" ...I said, "there definitely seems to be an issue with the long cranks and the JB+"
and there are many more than two cars that have had the issue...
You might want to check some of the other BMW boards...
Secondly, I was a beta tester and have been closely following the product since it's introduction.
Especially, whenever a user turned it up past 1/2.
I had a JB1 for over a year prior, without any issues, than in March , switched to the JB+. Then my issues began.
The issue's with the JB+ have been overlooked, since the introduction of the BT scan tool.
Making people less concerned, IF it throws a code, when you can just delete it and then have the issue checked.
I have no problem with you jumping on me...this is only my opinion...

I've spent quite a bit of time on various BMW forums and have not read about long cranks with the JB+. I have experienced about 5 long cranks in the past few days on my 2009 Z4 35i with a JB+ installed at 100%. I just ordered the BT tool to take a closer look. In your experience, did removing the JB+ resolve the long crank? I just assumed it was an early warning sign of a bad fuel pump. Thanks in advance.
