You do know they seize the engines and make the vehicles unusable after they are traded in.

So 31 mailmen traded in their mail trucks. I wonder what they bought.

OMG WHYYYYY. I heard they pour some kind of silica gel into the engine that basically ruins it.

Just think if they stipped out those 327 supra engines and put them on ebay they could have saved some money lol

Wow, I can't imagine how many good condition e30's, e36's, e39's, etc. there must have been that are now destroyed forever.

And WTF the 8-series? Such a baller car.

I have no idea why anyone would clunk their car that's worth a lot more by just trading it in like usual. wtf.

P.S. We turned in our 1998 Dodge Caravan Sport for $3500 (worth 1500), and picked up an 09 CR-V. This is by far one of the most fun SUV's I've ever driven handling wise. It only weighs 3500 lbs with 4wd. It's shorter than my 3er and I can just whip it around corners so fast. The I4 is a bit underpowered though in a straight line.

Car has to be drivable for it to qualify. So it can't be a complete wreck. Then they kill the engine and send it to get scrapped for metal.

It doesn't matter what they put on that list. Who's gonna trade in a Supra for $4,500? They could have put 2009 Veyron on the list for that matter.

Whole thing bothers me. Seeing all these cars scrapped (on our dime, nonetheless) just plain sucks.

Now there's no somewhat-decent cars for lower income people to buy (high school/college kids, etc), economy is still hurting, and it cost billions. Good deal, good deal.

Maybe I'll move to Germany. I hear people know how to drive over there too.

(Yes, this post is dripping with sarcasm and yes I'm aware Germany's Cash-for-Clunkers preceded the U.S.)

This is so depressing!!! Who would trade a MKIV Supra or an M3, S4, GNX etc. for $4500??? How can I get some of these idiots to sell me their cars instead of wasting them?
