Whats the major differences between the engines of the 335d vs. the 330d.

Does the 330d have turbos? Sorry if this has already been asked.

Ahem. Gentlemen.

To my understanding the engine block is the same. The difference lies in the turbos, with the 330d having a single turbo, while the 335d has a sequential twin turbo. The end result is that the 335d is a bit more powerful and should experience less turbo lag.

Good day to you...

...and your undulating mammaries.

Well tbf...
330d = 0-100 6.0 sec
330xd = 0-100 5.8 sec
335d = 0-100 5.9 sec

335d uses 1 liter/100km composite more fuel than 330d which is a lot, with mind to the figures above.

335d has slightly higher hp and torque, but it's not really worth the difference in price.

Unfortunately, those of us in the US don't have a choice.

335d - Sequential turbo utilizes the M57 engine block which itself has been around since '98. This diesel has won many awards over the years and has of course evolved as well.

330d - Engine named N57tu and this new engine block is all Aluminum IIRC, with a single variable vane turbocharger (7-series diesel gets 2 turbos). VW/Audi uses a single variable vane turbo in their 140 hp I4 diesel (Jetta TDI/A3 TDI) with great success.

I do not knonw if the N57tu has wastegates, but the turbo diesel in the VW Jetta Tdi does not and I've read that this lack of wastegates reduces complexity/increases reliablity.

I honestly don't know if BMW would bring the 330d to the states with the way the 335d hasn't been selling. I couldn't wait so I bought a 335d.
