AFE and INJEN intakes....
not looking to start a war here but for those of you who went with an afe or injen intake.. have you switched yours out for the other brand or a whole other intake all together? if so why?
Im currently debating on these two and not sure which one would be best for me. Im concerned with the heat soaking and yes ive done my research and both claim this isnt a problem. I dont have the cover under my hood so im not sure if this it will still seal off the top of the afe intake to prevent the heat. I like injen but its hard just seeing them hanging out like that. I know they are both great intakes, im just not sure which way to go. Thanks |

I personally think the Injen looks better, if I put it on my car I would want red pipes with red filter... possibly even upgrade the filters to a tad larger size with "inverted cone" tips. I still wonder if it is true how some people claim both of those intakes lose a little top-end power at higher boost levels. Sound and throttle response have always been considered a huge bonus either way.

I agree about the looks, and sound and throttle response is definatly awesome and is there with both intakes, but in terms of performance is what im not sure about. I wonder the same thing as you and the heat that i can just feel come off the engine after opening the hood is pretty bad, even after its been sitting for some time.

With these cold temps coming up why not go with a DCI set up? Cheap and does the job.

something i noticed though is that the injen "scoop" or air duct only makes use of 1 grill, while the afe is taking air from behind both and looks to have more of a ram air, except that its further back.

Had the Logic HVI way back when.
Heat soak was an issue as well as power not holding over the 5200-5500 RPM range. Probably the loudest intake I've had on the car & a very simple install. Left the Logic for the aFe. Beautiful under the hood, looked as though the design was well thought out & I hav dyno proven gains of 8-9 rwhp over the stock filter.. Plenty of noise, BUT still .... power would level off over 5500 RPM. Left the aFe for the Macht Schnell drop-in filter & stock air box. Not as loud, but still very noticeable "whoosh" effect. STRONG power to shift points and sustainable at that. My MPG took a dump, but the trade off was a no-brainer. Left the Macht Schnell for the Ultimate Racing CAI. This intake & the Macht Schnell are the only intakes I think I'll ever have on this car again. The UR CAI is strong all the way thru the RPM range and doesn't seem to suffer during the long stop n go type of driving I do or after an hour long cruise. Same power performance at anytime ..... VERY good. Aesthetically, this has got to be one of the best looking intakes that could be installed on these cars. All in all, CAI all day long. The Macht Schnell (formerly Helene filter) may go back in during the warmer months. |

i just got the Injen for the looks and proven gains . I will get hose running from one of the airducs in the bumber up to the right filter so that cold air is getting there as well. Bit tired of the "unprofessional" look of the DCI. will see.

Good idea with the extra duct... also some slightly larger filters with "inverted" ends might help this thing up top.

UR CAI all day. If you remove the brake duct/plenum, the air flows directly into the filter. No brainer if you're looking for cool air and there are a couple great DIY's around on youtube. Have you been enjoying the weather toad? |

I went ahead & purchased the larger aFe filter & will remove the backing from the mesh for the added air flow. Are you sure you want to remove the brake duct & leave it like that? I would think wet weather would be more of an issue then. |
