Factory "tinted" windows?

In sweden there is an option to get darker windows (rear, and rear doors windows) as a factory option. For about 400$ Anyone have pictures of this, and know how dark it really is?

As far as i understand this is not a film on the windows, but the actuall glass is darker?

Yes, its the glass itself that is darker

Its dark, but not limo dark

The best palce to fiind pics of it is on a 5 Series forum, since they have had this option for a while.

If I find a pic ill post it

Cool, what forum do you mean?

What's the downside with this comparing to getting en tinted in aftermarket? More then this options is only for rear doors and back?

You could try and look at the galleries of www.E60.net

The downside is as you say only the rear doors and back window is done
Also it might not be as dark as you want it

Thanks!

Ill look around, and if i find one ill attach to this thread.

I'm getting a new family member at about same time as i get the touring and thinking this is one of the (few) options that might actually be good for him/her.

The rear door blinds are also good
And together with the tint stop a lot of sun through the rear door windows

And when you dont want them you just retract them into the door

Any good reason why we cannot get the sunblock glass option in the USA? I would think there would be a big market for it.

Maybe BMW wants to keep the costs down and not offering many options in the US.
I'd guess that's one of the reasons why you can get these cars so cheap.

I would think DOT regulations from state to state prevent it

It is illegal for cars sold in the U.S. to have factory tinted glass, Trucks and SUV it is okay. (Yes the Dodge Magnum is actually classified a truck)

im planning on gettin black metallic tinted windows along with smoked taillights, which make an awsome combination to the overall look of my black sapphire.

Nice!! I would prefer those to tinted windows b/c those are *smoked* through the glass, not an external film that can be damaged. Widh they offered it here in the states!

Isn't there a windshield option as well? One that has some kind of radiation shield?

Right. And of course we cannot get it in the USA? I assume the 'tinting' effect is minimal.

Yep, the there is some kind of minimal tint... you can definitely tell the difference between a normal windscreen and a Climate Comfort one.

It's not your usual tint because it looks a bit like there is smoke inside the glass... I can't really explain this clearly enough, but I hope the picture below helps.

Climate Comfort front window

STONE DAMAGE!!!:

There are nothing more fustrating than this.
I did order a new type of window.
The new one has heatsheild. It has a blue effect which gives more contrast. Really comfortable to drive with.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has a freaking green stripe on it. Does any one knows why it has to be GREEN?

I also have a picture of the factory tint, I'll be posting that later today.
