i have the injen dci for my 335i, and was wondering what size air filters it uses, as i want to get the hydro shield.

based on the location of the injen cones.....why would you need the hydroshield? Its impossible to get water in there unless you plan on driving in water higher than your headlights.

i thought driving through heavy rain could lead to water getting into the intake?
is that highly unlikely?

Yes, highly unlikely. Unless you're driving without the hood you aren't going to have water getting anywhere near those filters.

+1 to what everyone else said. From the description of the hydro shield, it looks like if your intakes are low enough to have standing puddles be an issue you need that. So you should be safe.

(What cars have intakes that low?!)

CAI's are the only intakes that "could" be a problem (of course I would have to fall into that category).

Do your aFe's (assuming not the drop in since you said CAI...oiled?) feel any different than stock? Is it a faster responsive feeling or more power in the upper ranges? And is that consistent after a few runs?

I always liked the aFe DCI and just recently went to the CAI. The biggest difference between the 2 is that the aFe is more susceptible to heat soak issues. That and the fact that power beyond the 5000rpm range isn't sustained (levels off & evetually drops before the factory shift points).

I dyno'd with aFe & stock airbox filter last summer & had a sustained rwhp increase of 8-9 with the aFe installed.
Something else to consider using during the warmer months would be a hi-flow drop-in filter (I use the Macht Schnell). Power is sustained right up to 7000rpm. Your mileage may take a hit though as I lost 3-4mpg.

aFe or any DCI will work well during the cooler months. CAI will perform all year round.
Any aftermarket intake is going to improve throttle response regardless if it's a drop-in, DCI or a CAI. I had used an oiled Logic HVI, Pro Dry aFe DCI & now use an oiled UR CAI.
