Coilover install
Im just curious as to how much you guys that are running coilovers have paid to get them installed at a shop. Im getting numbers between $400-$900 locally and i just had a local shop tell me this:
Coilover brand and model? Basic install or...? How perfectly do you want the ride heights set? The rear height adjusters on the E9X chassis are a PITA to access! Do you want the car corner balanced? Wheel alignment? Depending on the above it would be in the $4XX - $9XX range. does this seem like an honest statement? That sounds like way too much for an install. I was wondering just how in depth and complicated it is because i have a mechanic friend that doesn't specialize in BMW or euros but hes very good and did a flawless job doing my springs on my e46 M3 last year. Save myself some money and do it at home or best left to the true proffesionals that want to charge me $900?

Installing the coils are easy. It's fine tuning thats a pain in the rear. I wouldn't pay someone to install them, but I'd surely pay someone to dial them in. A few hours labour seems right in the 400 dollar mark. Throw in an alignment and you're close to 600 total. So the prices seem fine to me.

Really? I paid $300 for install + alignment and that also included the degree of drop, camber, toe, etc. My shop was great about catering to my needs, and so should yours...

I've never done any suspension work before, and this time installed the FK coils with my frd's help. I wouldn't call it difficult at all especially with DIY and 2 people. I can probably finish in 3 hours if I do it again on my own.

I had KW v2 installed on mine and it was around $700. This included installing the coilovers, alignment and corner balancing. The work was done at a professional race shop in Cincinnati. I suppose a tire shop could do it cheaply. You really get what you pay for though. The experience of a really good shop is worth the money to me.

A basic install shouldn't be more than $300 + alignment. Pro shop or not, if they're installed, they're installed. The corner balancing is what's costly and should be performed by a pro shop.
